Our advice and expert opinions
You experience a brief, sharp pain when you eat or drink something hot or cold, and you've noticed gum problems when brushing your teeth. If you're experiencing these symptoms, you're not alone: 1 in 2 people suffering from tooth sensitivity also experience gum problems.
These symptoms require specialized care and treatment.
- To avoid damaging sensitive gums when brushing, it's best to use a soft toothbrush with rounded tips.
- To be effective without damaging the gums, the toothbrush head must make a circular movement over all tooth surfaces. In addition, the brush must be angled at 45° to the gums, with the ends of the bristles towards the roots of the teeth.
- Finally, teeth should always be brushed from gum to tooth tip ("from pink to white") to avoid the bristles hitting the fragile gum line.
