Our advice from pharmacy experts
If you become pregnant after taking EllaOne, it is important to contact your doctor. Your doctor may want to check that your pregnancy is not ectopic (in case the baby develops outside the uterus). This is especially important if you experience severe abdominal pain or bleeding after taking EllaOne, or if you have ever had an ectopic pregnancy, fallopian tube surgery or long-term genital infection (chronic) (upper genital infection).
If you have concerns about sexually transmitted diseases, be aware that EllaOne will not protect you from HIV infection (AIDS) or any other sexually transmitted disease (such as chlamydia, genital herpes, genital warts, gonorrhea, hepatitis B or syphillis). Only condoms can protect you from these diseases. Consult your doctor or the health care professional who follows you if you have any concerns about this.
