Medication and sore throat: beware of self-medication

If you're suffering from a mild sore throat, you can buy your own treatment and successfully treat yourself.
All you need to do is take what has worked for you in the past from your medicine cabinet, as many people don't necessarily want to run to the doctor at the first sign of symptoms, either for lack of time or to save money.
The pharmacist will be able to advise you effectively.
But if you notice that there's no improvement after 48 hours, and your condition seems to be getting worse: run to the doctor.
Similarly, if you have a sore throat accompanied by a fever, you should consult your doctor immediately: angina that is not properly treated can have serious repercussions.
Only he can prescribe the right treatment and, above all, determine whether the problem is viral or not.
Self-medication should therefore be used with moderation, and is not recommended for pregnant women, young children, people undergoing heavy medical treatment, or the elderly.

LEXICON (summary)

anesthetic
Drug that causes anesthesia. In addition to general anesthetics that allow patients to sleep before an operation, there are local anesthetics, which can be injected in contact with a nerve to numb a region of the body. Local anesthetics are also called contact anesthetics.

antibiotic
Substance capable of blocking the multiplication of certain bacteria or killing them. The spectrum of an antibiotic is the set of bacteria on which this product is usually active. Unlike bacteria, viruses are not sensitive to antibiotics. The first antibiotics were extracted from fungal cultures: penicillium (penicillin), streptomyces (streptomycin). They are currently manufactured by chemical synthesis. Antibiotics are divided into families: penicillins, cephalosporins, macrolides, tetracyclines (cyclins), sulfonamides, aminoglycosides, lincosanides, phenicolés, polymyxins, quinolones, imidazoles, etc.
Inappropriate use of antibiotics can promote the development of resistance: use an antibiotic only on prescription, respect its dosage and duration, do not give and do not advise another person an antibiotic that you have been prescribed .

Hepatic insufficiency
Inability of the liver to perform its function, which is essentially the elimination of certain wastes, but also the synthesis of many biological substances essential to the body: albumin, cholesterol and coagulation factors (vitamin K, etc.).

renal failure
Inability of the kidneys to dispose of waste or drug substances. Advanced renal failure does not necessarily result in a decrease in the amount of urine eliminated. Only a blood test and the determination of creatinine can reveal this disease.

pharyngitis
Inflammation or infection of the pharynx.

angioedema
Edema ofAllergic reaction usually affecting the face. Quincke's edema results in sometimes dramatic swelling. The eyelids are often the first affected. In the rare cases where edema affects the throat, breathing difficulties may occur and urgent treatment is required.

allergic reaction
Reaction due to the hypersensitivity of the body to a drug. Allergic reactions can be very varied: urticaria, angioedema, eczema, rash of measles-like pimples, etc. Anaphylactic shock is a generalized allergic reaction that causes discomfort by sudden drop in blood pressure.

urticaria
Rash of pimples on the skin, the origin of which is most often allergic. The pimples look like stinging nettles and their color varies from pale pink to red.
