Your dermatologist will check your skin type and help you to identify potential dehydration factors: a change in your working environment, swimming in a pool, using a harsh soap or shower gel, a recent illness, taking medication (anti-cholesterol medication...). If a causative factor has been identified, it should be corrected as far as possible.
Even if cutaneous dehydration is linked to poor mobilization of water in the skin, you still need to pay attention to water intake, and drink at least 1.5 liters of water every day (unless contraindicated by your doctor). Try to maintain a healthy indoor atmosphere, avoiding overheated or air-conditioned rooms which accelerate evaporation. In all cases, choose skin-care and hygiene products that are gentle on the skin: non-detergent toiletries and, if necessary, oil-replenishing products, rehydrating products (milks, creams, balms, ointments, oils, depending on the area and degree of dryness). The aim is not only to reduce water evaporation and maintain sufficient water in theepidermis, but also to repair the damaged skin barrier.
