Natrum Muriaticum, more commonly known as sodium chloride, is a compound widely recognized for its applications in homeopathy, particularly for its effectiveness in treating a variety of disorders. This remedy is extracted from sea salt specifically collected from the shores of the Guérande peninsula, a place renowned for the exceptional purity of its salt.
Composition and origin
Natrum Muriaticum is mainly composed of sodium chloride (NaCl). In addition to this major element, the mineral composition includes traces of magnesium chloride (MgCl2) and potassium chloride (KCl), which are also crucial, although present in lesser quantities. These additional minerals enrich the remedy's therapeutic profile, giving it unique health-boosting properties.
Therapeutic applications
Natrum Muriaticum should be considered as soon as the following three signs of malnutrition, weakness and dehydration are observed in a patient. If there is no improvement, consult your doctor.
ENT and respiratory disorders
Natrum Muriaticum is frequently used to treat various disorders of the ear, nose and throat (ENT) and respiratory tract. It helps relieve symptoms of sinusitis, colds and other respiratory infections, reducing inflammation and facilitating breathing.
Dermatological problems
This homeopathic salt is also effective against dermatitis and other skin disorders. It soothes the skin, reduces redness and treats eczema, offering lasting relief without the side effects often associated with conventional drug treatments.
Gynaecological and Urinary disorders
Natrum Muriaticum's properties extend to the gynecological and urinary systems, where it is used to treat urinary tract infections, hormonal imbalances and premenstrual symptoms. Its ability to modulate hormonal balance makes it a preferred choice for women suffering from menstrual and menopausal disorders.
Mental and neurological health
In terms of mental and neurological health, Natrum Muriaticum can be beneficial for those experiencing psychic disorders such as stress, anxiety and depression. It helps stabilize mood and improves cognitive function, making it useful in the treatment of a variety of neurological conditions, including headaches and migraine.
Management of gastroenterological disorders
For gastroenterological disorders, this remedy helps regulate digestive functions, treating acidity, acid reflux and ulcers. It also helps combat constipation and restore a healthy digestive balance.
Precautions and dosage
It is crucial to respect recommended dosages to avoid potentially serious side effects such as neurological disorders or increased blood pressure. Natrum Muriaticum dosage varies according to the condition being treated, and should always be taken as advised by a qualified health professional.
Synergies with other remedies
Natrum Muriaticum can be combined with other homeopathic strains such as Muriaticum Acidum and Urtica Urens to amplify its effects and optimize therapeutic results. This integrative approach makes it possible to personalize treatment, increasing effectiveness and minimizing the risk of adverse effects.
If there is no improvement within 24 hours, consult your homeopathic doctor.
Indications and dosage of Natrum Muriaticum granules
Homeopathic medicines can be used to treat a variety of symptoms. The homeopathic physician selects the dilution and dosage appropriate to the patient's condition and characteristic symptoms.
Natrum Muriaticum is a strain mainly indicated in homeopathy:
- recurrent rhinopharyngitis (often caused by changes in weather and the seaside, with alternating dry and runny mucous membranes, and a runny discharge that diminishes in the late morning), allergic rhinitis and otitis;
- in the treatment of asthma;
- dermatology: acne, atopic dermatitis (also known as atopic eczema ): a skin disease characterized by dry, scaly (peeling), itchy lesions on the elbow, knee and scalp, herpes(labial or genital), seborrheic dermatitis (a scalp fungus that causes dandruff), wart, urticaria;
- recurrent urinary tract infections;
- in times of depression, with: withdrawal, sadness, hides to cry, cries easily, prefers solitude, doesn't want to be consoled, discouragement after disappointment (like Ignatia amara) or grief;
- in cases of physical and/or intellectual fatigue, e.g. a student in exam period, or fatigue caused by overwork;
- in recovery from pathologies causing dehydration, fatigue or weight loss (e.g. gastro-enteritis, haemorrhage).
Natrum Muriaticum 7 CH: for use in cases of water retention in the lower half of the body, contrasting with weight loss in the upper half, in subjects who are always thirsty and prefer salt to sugar. Here, water retention is aggravated by heat and the seaside.
Medicinal applications of Natrum Muriaticum
Psychiatry
- Emotional states: ideal for people suffering from excessive loneliness, hidden crying in children, and other symptoms of depression such as discouragement and persistent sadness.
- Overwork and Fatigue: Helps combat fatigue linked to stress and overwork, revitalizing mind and body.
Psychomotor agitation is a behavioral disorder that mainly affects children. Those who suffer from it constantly feel the need to get moving, and annoy those around them. They may either never stop moving their limbs, or become irritable and unruly. Psychomotor agitation can be transient, occurring after an upsetting event or following the use of certain medications. Several homeopathic remedies - such as Kalium Bromatum, Mercurius Solubilis Boiron, Natrum Muriaticum, Tarentula Hispana, Stramonium, Medorrhinum boiron, Coffea Cruda, Cina and Zincum metallicum - can help to alleviate it. Dosage depends on symptoms and severity of agitation.
Dermatology
- Skin problems: Effective against herpes, acne and seborrheic dermatitis, it helps control symptoms such as severe dandruff and pruritic lesions.
- Chronic reactions: Treats chronic urticaria by soothing persistent allergic skin reactions.
Hair loss affects women in particular a few days after childbirth or after stopping breast-feeding. To stop this alopecia, homeopathy makes Sépia Officinalis available to mothers.Alopecia may be followed by a period of asthenia, when the subject notices that all or part of her hair has turned white. Alternatively, hair may fall out en masse instead of turning white.Alopecia can sometimes occur after a traumatic period for the patient. This could be a bereavement, separation or job loss. In such a situation, the patient should be treated with Arnica Montana or Natrum Muriaticum, as reactive alopecia tends to appear only months after the trauma. This homeopathic formula therefore acts both as prevention and treatment.
Urology and Gynecology
- Urinary tract infections: Prevents and treats recurrent infections, thanks to its antibacterial and purifying properties.
- Menstrual disorders: Relieves painful periods and vaginal lesions, improving general comfort during menstruation.
ENT and Respiratory Tract
- Allergic conditions: Effective treatment of rhinitis and rhinopharyngitis, characterized by runny nose or dry mucous membranes.
- Inflammatory pathologies: Used in cases of otitis and asthma, Natrum Muriaticum reduces inflammation and chest tightness.
Endocrinology
- Hormonal disorders: Treats acromegaly and diabetes insipidus, conditions caused by a specific hormonal imbalance, regulating the production of growth hormone.

- Digestive disorders: Effective against dehydration, diarrhea and constipation, Natrum Muriaticum restores water balance and aids digestion.
- Gastric pain: Rapidly soothes heartburn and other gastrointestinal discomforts.
