VICKS VAPORUB - Cold - inhalation

Vicks VapoRub Ointment used as a decongestant, especially for colds.
Composed of camphor, turpentine essential oil, levomenthol, eucalyptus essential oil and thymol, VICKS VapoRub ointment quickly clears the respiratory tract and makes breathing easier. Lightly massaged into the chest or neck1, or inhaled, it effectively relieves cold symptoms1.

Eucalyptus is a tree native to Australia and Tasmania, now found in most countries with warm temperate climates. Its leaves contain an essential oil with antiseptic and expectorant properties, making it a highly effective treatment for respiratory tract diseases, colds, coughs and throat or nasal mucosa irritation.

Description of VICKS VAPORUB Rhume inhalation POT 50G

VICKS Vaporub ointment is used as a decongestant for common respiratory ailments (colds, coughs, bronchitis). Please note that VICKS Vaporub Ointment is a MEDICATION NOT SUBJECT TO MEDICAL PRESCRIPTION (without prescription).
Composed of eucalyptus essential oil, camphor, levomenthol, turpentine essential oil and thymol, the ointment clears congested airways by cutaneous or inhalation route.
Read the instructions carefully before using this product.

Directions for use and dosage

FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY.
TO OPEN THE SAFETY CAP, PRESS AND TURN at the same time, following the pattern engraved on the cap.

• For cutaneous application: this product is reserved for adults and children over 6 years of age.
• Apply a teaspoonful once or twice a day to the chest or neck, preferably after washing.
• Never exceed 2 applications per day.
• Wash hands thoroughly after application.

How to use VICKS VAPORUB 50G ointment on the skin

• Fill teaspoon with ointment to the brim.
• Turn the spoon towards the inside of the jar and remove excess ointment if necessary by scraping the teaspoon along the edge of the jar to get the right amount.
• Apply with fingers.
• Wash spoon well after use.
• Wash hands thoroughly after use.
• Leave your clothes loose at the application site to allow the product to spread properly.
• Never apply a bandage or dressing to the application site. Never cover the application site with warm clothing or any other heat source.

Inhalation by fumigation of VICKS VAPORUB 50G: for adults and children over 12 years of age.
1 to 3 times a day, melt 1 to 2 teaspoons in a bowl of hot water (do not use boiling water) and inhale the vapors through the nose and mouth.

In the case of associated coughs, it may be useful to use a syrup adapted to dry or mixed coughs.

How to prepare VICKS VAPORUB 50G for fumigation (inhalation with an inhaler)

• Pour very hot water (do not use boiling water) into a bowl or inhaler.
• Fill the teaspoon with ointment to the brim, then turn it over towards the inside of the jar, removing excess if necessary.
• Stir ointment into hot water (do not use boiling water) to melt.
• Wash spoon thoroughly after use.

NEVER HEAT THE PREPARATION OR REHEAT IT, EVEN IN A MICROWAVE OVEN, AS THERE IS A RISK OF SPLASHING.
NEVER USE BOILING WATER FOR PREPARATION, AS SPLASH BURNS MAY OCCUR.
Inhale vapors for 10 to 15 minutes.
Inhalation is limited to 3 days.

Pregnancy

• Local irritation and allergy may occur. In the event of an allergic skin reaction, or if the sensation of heat becomes too intense, discontinue use. In the event of over-application, a sensation of intense cooking may be experienced.
• Due to the presence of terpene derivatives (camphor, menthol, thymol, eucalyptus) and in the event of administration in excess of recommended doses or failure to follow instructions for use, agitation and confusion may occur in the elderly, and there may be a risk of convulsions in children.

This ointment contains terpenes , with an antiseptic aim of the respiratory tract. Applied to the skin, they have a decongestant revulsive effect.
It is used to facilitate breathing during respiratory affections, with or without coughing.

CONTRAINDICATIONS ^(summary)

This medication should not be used in the following cases:

• in application to an injured skin (wound, eczema ),
  
• children with a history of seizures ,
  
• child under 6 years of age.
  

WARNING ^(Contents)

This ointment contains volatile flammable substances: after application, avoid placing yourself near a flame or incandescent object (cigarette).
Drugs containing terpenes (camphor, levomenthol) can, in very rare cases, cause serious accidents in young children ( seizures , consciousness, respiratory arrest). They are therefore contraindicated in children under 6 years of age.
The risk of accidents due to terpenes is increased:

• during repeated or extended applications (do not apply at the same time to the back and chest),
  
• when the skin is damaged (burn, wound, eczema ...).
  

If there is no improvement after 3 days, consult a doctor if you develop a fever.

PREGNANCY AND BREAST-FEEDING ^(summary)

Pregnancy :
The effect of this medication during pregnancy is not well known. The assessment of the possible risk associated with its use is individual: ask your pharmacist or doctor for advice.

Breastfeeding:
Terpenes can give a particular taste to milk. Their absorption by the infant is undesirable: avoid using this medication during breastfeeding.
In all cases, never apply on breasts in breastfeeding women.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE AND DOSAGE ^(summary)

The ointment can be used either on the chest or neck or inhaled after dissolving in a bowl of warm water.

Usual dosage:

In dermal application:

• Adult and child over 6 years: apply 1 teaspoon of ointment, 1 or 2 times a day.
  

Inhalation:

• Adult and child over 12 years: 1 or 2 teaspoons of ointment in a bowl of warm water, 1 to 3 times a day.
