Our advice and expert opinions

Mycosis affects around 5 million people in France.
Mycosis or nail fungus is a very common dermatological condition, most often linked to a fungus called dermatophyte, and preferentially affecting the big toe nail on the foot. Nail fungus must be treated with nail polish if it doesn't affect the nail matrix (the area of the nail under the skin), and with medication if it does. A source of discomfort and medical and aesthetic inconvenience, if left untreated it can be transmitted to the rest of the family and to other people.

How to prevent recurrence?

  • Keep nails short;
  • Dry feet thoroughly after bathing or showering, paying particular attention to the interdigital spaces;
  • Do not lend or borrow towels;
  • Decontaminate shoes and slippers with antifungal powders or lotions.
  • Sports shoes should be reserved for sporting activities and aired regularly. At all other times, shoes with leather insoles are preferable.
  • Cotton socks should also be preferred to synthetic socks, which absorb sweat poorly.
  • For excessive perspiration, antiperspirants are available in powder or spray form.
