Our advice and opinions from pharmacy experts
Maceration and sweating are the main factors in the development of the infectious agents involved: dermatophytes and yeasts of the Candida type. These symptoms only appear at the folds of the skin, hence the name intertrigo. The feet are often the most affected, but it can also affect pleated areas: armpits, groin, under the breasts, between the buttocks ...
To avoid fungal infections or their recurrence, you must :
- Avoid wet feet: dry them after showering with a dry towel passing well between the toes;
- Wear suitable shoes and socks so as not to sweat;
- Avoid wearing the same shoes for 2 days in a row so that perspiration has time to escape;
- Disinfect shoes (products in pharmacies);
- Avoid the occurrence of diaper rash in infants.
In case of candidiasis, avoid using acid soaps: they promote the multiplication of fungi.
In case of significant lesion of the toenails, prior grinding by a pedicure facilitates the action of the drug.
Excessive sweating contributes to the development of lesions due to fungi. The wearing of natural fiber socks (cotton, wool) is recommended. The same pair of shoes should not be worn two days in a row.
