ALOPEXY 5% Minoxidil Solution 3x60ML

For warnings, precautions for use and contraindications, please consult the instructions for use.

Alopexy 5% Minoxidil is a solution recommended in certain cases of alopecia (excessive hair loss), called androgenetic, of moderate intensity in humans.

It is not recommended for women because of the high frequency of hypertrichosis (abnormal development of the hair system) at a distance from the application sites.

Description of ALOPEXY 5% Minoxidil Solution 3x60ML

How does Alopexy 5% work ?

This solution is composed of Minoxidil 5g:

  • Minoxidil was approved in 1979 in the United States as a treatment against hypertension thanks to its vasodilator function. Minoxidil was sold in tablets and was used exclusively on patients with hypertension. But, as an unwanted side effect , we noticed a hair growth effect as well as an increase in their density.
  • Minoxidil is a dilator of blood vessels , used locally at low concentrations (2% in women and 5% in men) therefore undetectable with no effect on blood pressure.

Our advice and opinions from pharmacy experts

How effective can we expect from minoxidil ?

Paradoxically, minoxidil accentuates hair loss during the first four weeks of treatment, according to a logical phenomenon of elimination of telogen hair (already dead hair). Normalization of the fall is done around the sixth week if the prescribed dose corresponds to the intensity of hair loss. Finally, there is an increase in the diameter of the hair, perceptible from the 3rd-6th month. The normalization of the fall and the increase in the caliber of the hair can be checked by the patient himself using the traction test and by comparison of successive photos.

Health Education Council:

What is androgenetic alopecia?

Normally the hair has a lifespan of 3 to 6 years and it falls by day 50 to 100 hairs.

More hair loss can occur seasonally (in the fall) or after childbirth: the fall is normal, transient and there is no need to start treatment.

Alopecia is defined as hair loss greater than 100 hairs per day.

There are two types of alopecia:

· Acute alopecia,

· Chronic alopecia.

Acute alopecia (sudden hair loss over a short period of time) can be diffuse or in patches (peladic) and are most often of known cause (aggressive hair care, poor general condition, poorly balanced weight loss, certain drugs, shock psychic, stress ...).

These acute alopecia should not be treated with this medicine.

Chronic (long-term) alopecia are almost always diffuse.

They are sometimes due to the specific disease (thyroid, metabolic ...) and they should not be treated with this medicine.

In the great majority, these chronic alopecia are of poorly known origin, most often hereditary: it is androgenetic alopecia. Only this type of alopecia can be treated with minoxidil.

How to recognize androgenetic alopecia?

In the woman

In humans

image010.png

image011.png

Androgenetic alopecia is diffuse: there is an overall decrease in capillary density.

The hair gradually clears from the line.

Androgenetic alopecia begins with a thinning of the temporal gulfs.

Then a slight tonsure appears at the top of the skull.

These two areas lacking hair will gradually grow: androgenetic alopecia gradually evolves to baldness.

Some tips for use

Use a mild shampoo (preferably without silicone).

If you do your shampoo after the application of minoxidil, respect a period of 4 hours after it.

If you apply minoxidil after shampooing, it is recommended to do it on the dry scalp. You can use a hair dryer after applying minoxidil preferably in a warm position.

You can use mousse, gels or styling sprays with a minimum of 1 hour between applications.

There is no interaction between your treatment with minoxidil and your permanent or coloring care but it is better to limit them because of their aggressiveness on the hair.

If you plan to sunbathe after applying minoxidil, it is recommended to cover your hair.

Some additional information

At the beginning of treatment, over a short period of time, an increase in hair loss may occur. This hair was destined to fall and do it faster. This is a normal phenomenon, continue the treatment.

The first hair that grows will be soft, fluffy and not very visible. As you go on, as you continue your treatment, they can change and thicken.

LEXICON (summary)

allergy
Skin reaction (itching, pimples, swelling) or general discomfort occurring after contact with a particular substance, use of a medication or ingestion of a food. The main forms of allergy are eczema, urticaria, asthma, angioedema and allergic shock (anaphylactic shock). Food allergy can also result in digestive disorders.

alopecia
General or partial hair loss.

hepatitis
Inflammation of the liver. It may be due to a drug, a virus, alcohol or some other cause.
Viral hepatitis usually heals without treatment. Unlike hepatitis A and E, which are almost always benign, hepatitis B and C can become chronic: the virus persists in the patient's body, which remains contagious but does not necessarily suffer from liver problems. Chronic hepatitis is said to be active when the virus continues to destroy the cells of the liver, destruction translated by the increase of transaminases in the blood.

high blood pressure
Excess pressure (tension) of the blood in the arteries. This pressure is provided by the heart and is expressed by two numbers. It is maximal during the contraction of the heart, or systole (first digit), and minimum during the cardiac rest, or diastole (second digit). Hypertension is characterized by a maximal (systolic) pressure greater than or equal to 16, or a minimum (diastolic) pressure greater than or equal to 9.5. Treatment is initiated when these numbers are exceeded or for lower voltages in some people with cardiovascular risk factors: heredity, smoking, diabetes, excess cholesterol. Permanent antihypertensive therapy can reduce the damage to the heart and blood vessels caused by high blood pressure.

mucous
Tissue (membrane) lining the cavities and ducts of the body communicating with the outside (digestive tract, respiratory system, urinary tract, etc.).

neuritis
Lesion of a nerve that may be due to diseases or various causes: diabetes, alcoholism, intoxication, drugs. When multiple nerves are affected, the term polyneuritis is used. Some drugs can damage the optic nerve (optic neuritis) and cause vision problems.

edema
Accumulation of water or lymph causing localized swelling.

vasodilator
Drug capable of dilating the blood vessels (artery, vein), as opposed to vasoconstrictor.

dizziness
Symptom that may indicate a sense of loss of balance (common sense) or, more strictly, a feeling of rotation on oneself or the environment (medical sense).

way
  • Path (route of administration) used to administer the drugs: oral, sublingual, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous, intradermal, transdermal.
  • Set of hollow organs allowing the passage of air (airways), food (digestive tract), urine (urinary tract), bile (bile ducts), etc.

Hair loss is a concern for both women and men. The brush full of hair can be maddening, but it doesn't always have to be. The lifespan of a hair varies from 3 to 7 years. The hair is constantly in renewal: the hair grows, lives, then dies and ends up falling out. A hair is considered to be dead…
