What is the purpose of the FreeStyle Libre sensor?

The FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor is compatible with the FreeStyle Libre 2 reader, the FreeStyle LibreLink application and the updated FreeStyle Libre reader.

Optional alarms are available with the FreeStyle Libre 2 reader or with the latest version of the FreeStyle LibreLink application; but are not available with the updated FreeStyle Libre Reader.

Abbott's FreeStyle Libre sensor lets you check your blood glucose in 1 second, painlessly and without a single drop of blood. Very practical.

Please note that this FreeStyle Libre Sensor Kit does not include a meter. To measure your blood glucose, you'll need to purchase the FreeStyle Libre meter pack, available on our website, in addition to your sensor. The FreeStyle Libre meter pack contains: 1 FreeStyle Libre meter, 1 USB cable, 1 power adapter, 1 user manual, 1 quick start guide.

This Abbott FreeStyle Libre sensor can be used with the FreeStyle Français reader.

The FreeStyle Libre 2 and FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensors are continuous glucose monitors designed to help people with diabetes monitor their blood glucose levels. Although they share similar functionalities, several key differences set them apart.

1. Sensor wear time

  • FreeStyle Libre 2: Each sensor is designed for 14 days of continuous use.

  • FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus: Wearing time is extended to 15 days, offering an extra day of continuous monitoring.

2. Minimum age of use

  • FreeStyle Libre 2: Suitable for adults and children aged 4 and over.

  • FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus: The indication is extended to children from the age of 2, enabling use in a younger paediatric population.

3. Sensor accuracy

Sensor accuracy is measured by MARD (Mean Absolute Relative Difference).

  • FreeStyle Libre 2: MARD of 9.2

  • FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus: Improved accuracy with a MARD of 8.2%, indicating better agreement with reference values.

4. Real-time alarms

Both systems offer optional alarms to warn of glucose levels that are too low or too high. However, the FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus offers improvements in data transmission.

  • FreeStyle Libre 2: Requires manual scanning of the sensor to obtain glucose readings, even after an alert.

  • FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus: Offers automatic transmission of glucose readings every minute via Bluetooth, eliminating the need for frequent manual scans.

5. Compatibility with Insulin Pumps

  • FreeStyle Libre 2: Does not offer direct integration with insulin pumps.

  • FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus: Compatible with some insulin pumps, enabling more integrated diabetes management.

In summary, the FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus brings significant improvements over the FreeStyle Libre 2, including extended wear time, use in young children from the age of 2, improved accuracy, more effective real-time alarms and compatibility with some insulin pumps. These developments offer patients a more comfortable and accurate blood glucose monitoring experience.

How to use this blood glucose sensor?

Give your opinion on the FreeStyle LIBRE Capteur 15 jours instructions for use and dosage with our partner Verified Reviews after your purchase.

All you have to do is place the sensor on the back of your arm, without the assistance of a third party, thanks to its applicator. Then bring the sensor and meter together by pressing "Start new sensor" on the FreeStyle Libre touchscreen. Scanning the sensor with the reader activates it. With just one scan of the sensor, you'll be able to read your blood glucose instantly, painlessly and without a single drop of blood for 14 days.

It's quick, easy and discreet! You can even scan the sensor through your clothes. Ideal for children, frail or active people...

How to optimize the fitting of the FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor?

1. Choose the area in which to place the sensor

Choose an area on the back of the upper arm.
Do not use moisturizers, lotions or creams in the sensor area, nor hand sanitizers (such as hydroalcoholic gel); nor moisturizing wipes to clean the skin.
Avoid placing the sensor on moles, scarred or tattooed areas.
Wax the area if necessary, as hair can slip between the adhesive sensor and the skin.

2. When applying the sensor

  • Wash the application area with ordinary soap (non-moisturizing and unscented), rinse and allow to dry.
  • Clean with an alcohol wipe.
  • Dry skin completely before applying the FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor, especially if applying after showering.

3. Tips

Your patients can also use products to protect the skin or improve the adhesion of their sensor, such as adhesive strips, wipes or sprays.

Remember :
The hole in the center of the sensor must never be covered, to allow the sensor to breathe;
Adhesive strips must be applied at the same time as the sensor.

Precautions for use

The FreeStyle Libre blood glucose meters on sale in France do not have language-changing functions, as they are manufactured exclusively for French protocols, each country having its own protocols.

Avoid using French FreeStyle Libre blood glucose sensors on devices designed for other countries, as this may distort the data as they are programmed for the countries' protocols.

Thoroughly cleanse the skin before applying the sensor, using the alcohol-impregnated wipes supplied in this kit.
The sensor can be left on the skin for up to 14 days; your reader will send you a regular alert 3 days before the end of the 14-day period, and all you have to do is change the sensor for a new use.
The sensor must not be immersed in water for more than 30 minutes.
The sensor should be stored between 4°C and 25°C and at a humidity level of between 10% and 90%.
