Our advice and expert opinions
The treatment of cow's milk protein allergy is based on a diet that excludes all milk-based foods from the diet (known as an avoidance diet), i.e. milk, dairy products, cheese, butter, cream and all industrial products containing milk (cookies, baby food, etc.).
If the infant has shown symptoms of allergy to cow's milk proteins while being exclusively breastfed by his mother, i.e. without any cow's milk, the mother is advised to follow a diet excluding all cow's milk proteins.
The diagnosis is confirmed if this exclusion diet leads to a rapid disappearance of symptoms in the child.
