What are Elastoplast Med Waterproof Dressingsused for?
Elastoplast Med Waterproof dressings are specially designed to protect medium to large wounds, as well as those resulting from minor surgical procedures. Thanks to their waterproof, transparent film, these dressings offer optimum protection against water, allowing washing, showering, bathing and even swimming without compromising healing. Their strong adhesion ensures that the dressing stays firmly in place, even in wet conditions, reducing the risk of infection.
Elastoplast Med Waterproof dressings are specially designed to offer advanced wound protection, particularly suitable after minor surgery or for covering medium to large wounds. These dressings incorporate advanced features for fast, effective healing, keeping the wound free from infection and facilitating the healing process.
- Reinforced antibacterial protection: Featuring a non-sticky anti-bacterial pad, these dressings create a protective cushion that effectively isolates the wound from bacterial and dirt intrusion, while allowing the skin to breathe. This active barrier minimizes the risk of infection and supports the skin's natural healing process.
- Comfort and ease of use: thanks to their powerful adhesive, Waterproof Elastoplast Med dressings guarantee a secure hold, even when exposed to water or frequent movement, ensuring constant protection. They are also designed to be removed easily and painlessly, avoiding skin irritation and interference with wound healing, making them particularly convenient and comfortable for the user.
- High absorbency and impermeability: the highly absorbent central pad effectively treats exudate, maintaining an optimal moist environment which is crucial for accelerated healing. The waterproof nature of the dressing ensures that this protection remains effective even under water, enabling daily use without concern for deterioration or reduced effectiveness.
Elastoplast Med Waterproof dressings are an ideal solution for wound management, combining antibacterial protection, comfort and convenience. They are particularly suitable for post-operative care or for wounds requiring robust defense against external elements and infection. Our advice and opinions from pharmacy experts
It was Professor Winter in 1962 who demonstrated the main basis of wound healing. He proved that keeping the wound in a moist environment facilitated cell migration and doubled the speed of healing.
The purpose of a dressing is to protect the wound from dirt, shock and rubbing against clothing, while enabling the wearer to continue his or her usual activities. Different types of dressing are available, depending on the wound:
Dry dressings, consisting of a gauze pad and an adhesive backing, are ideal for small wounds (abrasions, cuts). It's best to opt for a model that's adhesive on all four sides to protect the wound from impurities, and remember to change it as soon as it's soiled, or at least once a day. Some contain silver ions, which are antibacterial and antifungal, helping to limit the risk of microbial contamination. Calcium alginate-based dressings stop heavy bleeding more quickly.
Moist dressings accelerate healing, while limiting maceration. Keeping the wound in a moist environment contributes to cell renewal, promoting collagen synthesis and new tissue development.
Hydrocolloid dressings, made from absorbent carboxymethylcellulose-based polymers, or hydrocellular polyurethane dressings are ideal for children's knee abrasions and blisters that have blistered. Highly absorbent, they protect wounds from water and prevent the formation of a scab that can leave a nasty scar.
If the wound is clean, these dressings can be left in place for two or three days.
Strips are used to bring the edges of a cut closer together, avoiding the need for stitches when the wound is not too deep. They are first applied perpendicular to the wound edges, then in the direction of the wound. They are then covered with a dry dressing.
Liquid spray or geldressings form a protective layer. They are intended for small lesions on the hands and feet (cracks), as well as those on the face, where it is difficult to apply a dressing. They must be renewed daily.
