Natural alum stone is directly extracted from the ground, but there are also synthetic stones: how to differentiate one from the other?
Alum stone is a salt (double sulphate of aluminum and potassium), which comes in the form of a translucent, white crystal (it looks like an ice cube), and odorless. It is found in the form of a rough stone, or a cut and polished stick, which is more ergonomic. It is used as an aftershave or as a deodorant.

• Originally, alum stone is 100% natural and comes from alunite mines (Syria), or surface outcrops: the rock is exposed as is the case in Egypt, Bohemia and Saxony, or on volcanic soils (Naples region, Greece, Guadeloupe).
• But there are also synthetic alum stones, which have the same appearance as natural stones. They are manufactured by the chemical industry, from synthetic ammonium salt. The potassium of the natural stone is therefore replaced, in this case, by ammonium.

The mention "Ammonium Alum" in the composition indicates a synthetic stone, while "Potassium Alum" gives you the certainty that the stone is natural.
