Deficiency usually related to nutrients, vitamins, minerals, etc. A diversified diet is the best prevention of deficiencies.

anaphylactic shock
Shock of allergic origin manifested by a sudden drop in blood pressure, due to extreme dilation of the blood vessels. It occurs after contact with an allergenic substance (food, insect sting, injection or drug absorption).

intramuscular
route or injectionInjection of a drug into a muscle, usually at the buttock. The effect of the drug, which passes only gradually in the blood, is delayed but prolonged. A good preliminary disinfection of the skin is necessary, because this deep injection exposes to a risk of abscess. The pain due to the bite depends mainly on the nature of the product used. This route of administration is contraindicated in hemophiliacs and people taking anticoagulant therapy, as it may expose them to a risk of hematoma of the buttocks.
Abbreviation: IM.

intravenous
route or injectionInjection of a drug into a vein, usually at the bend of the elbow, after disinfection of the skin. When it comes to a direct intravenous injection using a syringe, the effect of the drug is immediate, but brief. Conversely, the infusion allows a continuous and controlled administration of the active substance, diluted in a vial of serum.
Abbreviation: IV.

metabolism
The whole of the transformation actions that the organism carries out, resulting in the creation of energy or the development of various substances. There is anabolism (manufacturing metabolism) of catabolism (degradation metabolism).

vitamin
Substance essential for the growth and the good functioning of the organism. Vitamin requirements are normally covered by a varied diet. In developed countries, only vitamin D deficiency in young children or the elderly with little sun exposure justifies routine supplementation. An intake greater than the needs, by drugs in particular, can be at the origin of an overdose and various disorders (vitamins A and D essentially).

way
  • Path (route of administration) used to administer the drugs: oral, sublingual, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous, intradermal, transdermal.
  • Set of hollow organs allowing the passage of air (airways), food (digestive tract), urine (urinary tract), bile (bile ducts), etc.
