Why do pollens make us allergic ?
To cause an allergic reaction, it is necessary that the pollen of trees or herbaceous are emitted in large quantity. This is the case of grassy anemophilous plants, ambrosia, cypress or birch. Their allergenic potential is also very strong. And because these pollen grains are small and light, they stay in the atmosphere and are carried by the wind from one area to another. That's why we find these allergenic pollens in cities as well as in the countryside. Other factors may also increase allergies, such as air pollution, the existence of cross-reactions between pollen or with certain foods, or the existence of genetic terrain.
How does pollinosis manifest itself ?
- Seasonal allergic rhinitis: stuffy nose, sneezing, runny nose and itching.
- Seasonal allergic conjunctivitis: red eyes that sting, with sensation of sand in the eyes.
- Small pollens, which can penetrate into the bronchi, can cause attacks of asthma: decreased breath, wheezing bronchus, persistent cough often nocturnal.
