What are the characteristics of Turmeric?

Native to India, turmeric is a tropical plant accustomed to rich osls, cultivated for a very long time in India and Asia.

It is a perennial herbaceous plant with its underground rhizome from which emerge large elongated leaves and large spikes of young-pink flowers surrounded by bracts.

The covered rhizome, suber gray-brown, is orange-yellow and gives off a strong aromatic odor when broken.

Cucuma comes from the Arabic name korkom , Ibn al Baytar (3rd century) reports that it dries up ulcers, sharpens eyesight and destroys scabies.

In India, it is used as an anti-inflammatory and against skin diseases, especially scabies. Topical turmeric paste treats eye infections, burns, wounds and bites.

It is one of the main ingredients of curry, a mixture of spices bringing aromas and preservative power to food. Indians consume 2 to 3g daily.

In the Chinese Pharmacopoeia, it is indicated to eliminate blood stasis, promote the circulation of qi (energy), stimulate menstruation and relieve pain. It is also called Indian saffron.

Natural tip:

A good solution to obtain a daily intake of turmeric is to add it to your oil for example.

Recipe for an aromatic turmeric oil:

Ingredients:

  • 500ml virgin olive oil
  • 3 tablespoon of organic turmeric powder
  • 1 level teaspoon of fresh organic black pepper

Preparation:

  1. Pour the oil into an airtight glass jar
  2. Add the curucma powder + the pepper
  3. Mix everything with a spatula
  4. Close the jar and let it macerate for a week, remembering to shake the jar once a day
  5. On the 8th day, filter the turmeric oil in an opaque glass bottle without stirring the turmeric and pepper deposit at the bottom.

It's ready!
