Our advice and expert pharmacy opinions

Scrapes, shallow cuts and minor abrasions are wounds you can treat yourself at home. However, watch out for any signs of infection: if the wound is red, hot and painful, consult your doctor. The same applies to any large or deep-looking wound.

The skin protects the whole body from external aggression. That's why any cutaneous wound, however benign it may seem, requires rigorous care, aimed at :

  • stop bleeding
  • avoid infectious complications;
  • promote healing.

Before the wound can be protected with a dressing, the skin must be thoroughly cleansed. This ensures that all possible infectious agents, such as bacteria, are eliminated from the wound.
Another action to promote healing is to disinfect wounds and adjacent skin.
