Our professional advice and the opinions of natural health experts
Bacterial vaginosis, which affects 15-20% of women in France, results from a profound imbalance in vaginal flora. The vaginal cavity is normally colonized by lactobacilli.
What causes bacterial vaginosis?
Bacterial vaginosis is caused by the proliferation of micro-organisms such as Gardnerella vaginalis or Prevotella. This proliferation takes place at the expense of lactobacilli, whose role is to maintain the vagina's acidity. This leads to an increase in pH (above 5, when it should normally be 4.5).
vaginosis is a benign vaginal infection caused by an imbalance in vaginal flora. Very common, vaginosis can be embarrassing, but not serious.
Vaginal discharge may be white or grey, light or heavy. They generally have a strong odour. The odour may increase after sexual intercourse or during menstruation. Itching is rare.
