Our advice and advice from natural health experts

Heartburn (pyrosis) results from a problem with digestion . Due to a meal that is too rich, weak muscle tone in the digestive system or being overweight, the acidic juices of the stomach back up into the esophagus and irritate it. This is called acid reflux or gastroesophageal reflux (GERD). These burns usually appear after a large meal and can last from a few minutes to several hours.

There are many changes you can make to your lifestyle and diet to help control reflux . To soothe heartburn, one solution is to mix lemon juice and honey in a little hot water. This decoction, taken at the end of a meal, will allow you to soothe excess acidity in the stomach .

COMPOSITION (summary)
p gel
Omeprazole 20 mg
Sucrose +

INDICATIONS (summary)
This medication belongs to the family of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). It decreases the secretion of gastric acids and thus makes it possible to fight the disorders related to the acidity of the stomach. It acts in a prolonged, but delayed way: the drop in the acidity of the stomach requires a delay of a few days.
It is used in the short-term treatment of the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn, regurgitation ...).
CONTRAINDICATIONS (summary)
This medicine should not be combined with medicines containing nelfinavir (which is no longer sold in France).
CAUTION (summary)
The effect of proton pump inhibitors is not immediate. 2 or 3 days of treatment may be necessary to observe an improvement in symptoms .
It is best to consult a doctor in the following situations:
  • digestive problems occurring for the first time, or if the problems have changed recently;
  • disorders associated with weight loss;
  • difficulty swallowing or persistent abdominal discomfort;
  • history of stomach ulcer or digestive surgery;
  • liver failure or jaundice;
  • if you need to have a Chromogranin A test (used to diagnose certain tumors).
People with gastroesophageal reflux should avoid using drugs containing aspirin or NSAIDs that increase the acidity of the stomach. Paracetamol, on the other hand, is harmless for treating pain or fever.
Driver: This medication can sometimes cause dizziness and visual disturbances.
DRUG INTERACTIONS (summary)
This medicine may decrease the absorption of certain protease inhibitors (such as atazanavir) used in the treatment of HIV: there is a risk of reducing the effectiveness of antiretroviral.
Also tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking medicines containing clopidogrel, digoxin, tacrolimus, phenytoin, itraconazole or ketoconazole.
PREGNANCY and BREASTFEEDING (summary)
Pregnancy :
No harmful effects on the unborn child have been established with this medicine. However, as a precaution, its use during pregnancy is reserved for situations for which there is no therapeutic alternative.

Feeding with milk :
This medicine passes into breast milk. However, at the recommended doses, the possibility of an effect of the drug in infants is very unlikely.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE AND DOSAGE (summary)
This medication should be taken before a meal. It should be swallowed whole with a glass of water, without being chewed or crushed.
For people who cannot swallow the tablets, they can be dissolved in a glass of non-carbonated water, fruit juice or compote. The solution obtained should be drunk within 30 minutes. To recover any microgranules deposited on the walls, rinse the glass with a little water and drink it.

Usual dosage:

  • Adult: 1 tablet per day, in the morning if heartburn occurs during the day or in the evening if heartburn occurs at night.
Treatment should not exceed 2 weeks without medical advice. If symptoms persist after 7 days of treatment or recurrence at the end of treatment, examinations may be necessary.
TIPS (summary)
Drug treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease is only conceivable when the following simple measures have not helped to resolve the symptoms:
  • do not lie down within two hours of a meal,
  • do not lean forward (bend your knees to pick up objects),
  • do not wear clothes that compress the abdomen (sheath ...),
  • raise the head of the bed by 5 to 10 cm by placing wedges under the feet or a thick pillow under the mattress,
  • avoid carbonated drinks, prefer foods that are easy to digest.
These tips are intended to prevent the acidic contents of the stomach from flowing back into the esophagus during digestion.
If you are a smoker, continuing to smoke is a major obstacle to treatment; nicotine increases stomach acid and reduces the efficiency of the muscle that closes the junction between the esophagus and the stomach.
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS (summary)
The most common (1 to 10% of patients): diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, bloating, headache.
Common: mild polyps in the stomach.
Uncommon: insomnia, drowsiness, dizziness , dizziness, tingling, redness of the skin, hives, itching, increased transaminases .
Rarely: taste disturbances, blurred vision, dry mouth, agitation, confusion of ideas, depression, excessive sweating, aggression, hallucinations, joint or muscle pain, abnormal blood count , gynecomastia , allergic reaction , photosensitization , hyponatremia , hepatitis , potentially serious skin rash .
Very occasionally, proton pump inhibitors could also cause the development of cutaneous lupus. In case of a rash, especially on areas exposed to the sun, consult your doctor immediately.

LEXICON (summary)

NSAIDs
Abbreviation for nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory. Family of anti-inflammatory drugs that are not derived from cortisone (steroids), and the best known of which is aspirin.

antecedent
Condition cured or still evolving. The background can be personal or family. History is the story of a person's health.

skin rash
Appearance of pimples or plaques on the skin. These lesions can be due to a food, a drug, and reflect an allergy or a toxic effect. Many viruses can also cause pimples: those of rubella, roseola and measles are the best known.

gastroresistant
Qualifies certain tablets or capsules in which the active substance is protected from the acidity of the stomach.

gynecomastia
Breast enlargement in men, congenital or due to disease, tumor or certain medications.

hepatitis
Inflammation of the liver. It may be due to medication, virus, alcohol, or some other cause.
Viral hepatitis usually heals without treatment. Unlike hepatitis A and E, which are almost always mild, hepatitis B and C can become chronic: the virus persists in the patient's body, which remains contagious but does not necessarily suffer from liver problems. Chronic hepatitis is said to be active when the virus continues to destroy liver cells, which is reflected by the increase in transaminases in the blood.

hyponatremia
Decrease in the level of sodium (salt) in the blood.

Hepatic insufficiency
Inability of the liver to fulfill its function, which is essentially the elimination of certain waste products, but also the synthesis of numerous biological substances essential to the body: albumin, cholesterol and coagulation factors (vitamin K, etc.).

infant
Child from one to 30 months. A child under one month of age is a newborn.

blood count
The count measures the number of red blood cells (red blood cells), white blood cells (leukocytes) and platelets in the blood. The blood formula specifies the percentage of different white blood cells: neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils, lymphocytes, monocytes.
Abbreviation: NFS.

photosensitization
Abnormal sensitivity of the skin to light or ultraviolet rays, due to a drug or a natural or chemical substance.

polyps
Outgrowth on a mucous membrane.

allergic reaction
Reaction due to the body's hypersensitivity to a drug. Allergic reactions can take a variety of aspects: hives, angioedema, eczema, rash reminding of measles, etc. Anaphylactic shock is a generalized allergic reaction that causes discomfort from a sudden drop in blood pressure.

gastroesophageal reflux
Rise of gastric juice in the esophagus and in the back, favored by the lying position after meals, by leaning forward, by wearing clothes that compress the abdomen. This reflux is sometimes due to a hiatal hernia.

symptoms
Trouble felt by a person with an illness. The same symptom can translate different diseases and the same disease does not necessarily give the same symptoms in all patients.

transaminases
Enzymes measured in the blood, the rate of which increases during certain hepatitis. They appear in blood tests as SGOT and SGPT or ASAT and ALAT.

ulcer
Hollow lesion of the skin, mucous membranes or cornea.
  • Leg ulcer: chronic sore due to poor blood circulation.
  • Peptic ulcer: localized wound in the lining of the stomach or duodenum, due to excess acidity and very often to the presence of a bacterium (Helicobacter pylori). The ulcer is favored by stress, alcohol, smoking and taking certain medications (aspirin, NSAIDs, etc.).

dizziness
Symptom which can indicate an impression of loss of balance (common sense) or, more strictly, a feeling of rotation on oneself or the environment (medical sense).
