Covid Boiron Test and Care self-test performance
The test's clinical performance was determined by examining 212 positive and 200 negative samples for SARS-CoV-2 antigen, with a sensitivity of 99.52%, a specificity of over 99.99% and test accuracy of 99.75%. Clinical samples were determined as positive or negative using a reference RT-PCR method.
Direct detection of SARS-CoV-2 virus proteins in nasopharyngeal secretions. Highly specific, ideal for front-line use (screening process, rapid patient triage, ambulatory diagnostic assistance, etc.).
Introducing the COVID 19 antigen autotest
TheFlowFlex Covid 19 self-test, available from your online organic pharmacy, is a nasal swab self-test.
Apart from the nasal swab, it operates in a similar way to the antigen tests available in pharmacies. With the COVID FlowFlex self-test, sampling is nasal: simply rub the swab inside the nostril, 4 centimetres after the nostril entrance.
What is the Covid-19 FlowFlex Autotest used for?
The Covid-19 Autotest confirms the presence of the virus when the test is positive. Its advantage lies in the rapid delivery of results (15 minutes).
The COVID-19 rapid antigen test is a medical device designed to detect the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the agent responsible for COVID-19, in human nasal samples. This test is based on the immunochromatography method with colloidal gold.
Scope:
- The test is intended for people suspected of having COVID-19, whether they have symptoms or not.
- Children and adolescents under 18 years of age, as well as those who cannot understand the instructions, must be supervised by an adult when using the test.
Functioning of the virus and symptoms of COVID-19 :
- SARS-CoV-2 belongs to the β-coronavirus genus.
- COVID-19 is an acute infectious disease of the respiratory tract.
- The incubation period varies from 1 to 14 days, usually 3 to 7 days.
- Main symptoms include fever, fatigue, dry cough, and loss of taste or smell. Some may also experience a blocked nose, sore throat, muscle aches, or diarrhea.
Interpretation of results :
- A positive result indicates possible infection with SARS-CoV-2, but further testing is required for confirmation.
- A negative result does not necessarily mean absence of infection, especially if symptoms are present. It must be confirmed by a healthcare professional.
Test principle :
- When a sample containing SARS-CoV-2 antigen is applied to the test cassette, it reacts with an antibody specific to SARS-CoV-2.
- The mixture moves along the nitrocellulose membrane of the test strip.
- If the SARS-CoV-2 antigen is present, a red line appears on the test line (T) indicating a positive result. A red line also appears on the control line (C) to indicate that the test has worked correctly.
It is important to note that this test should be used as a screening tool and not as a definitive diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Instructions for use
How to perform a rapid test for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 antigens, responsible for COVID-19?
Antigen tests carried out in pharmacies are based on a naso-pharyngeal swab, which is much deeper and more invasive, which can sometimes complicate the test.
Procedure - The Covid-19 self-test is performed in 4 steps:
- Place the tube pre-filled with the extraction pad on the rack and remove the aluminum cover.
- Insert the swab horizontally into the nasal cavity until it touches the posterior wall of the nasopharynx. Rub the surface of the nasopharyngeal mucosa.
- Rotate the swab for about 10 seconds, pressing the tip against the inside of the tube to release the antigen from the swab, especially in the case of viscous samples.
- Place the filter tip on the tube and place 4 drops of solution in well S using the dropper tip.
Express the sample: Remove the swab while pressing its head against the inside of the extraction tube to extract as much liquid as possible.
Read the result at 15 minutes.
- If I have any questions about my health, I call my doctor.
- If I'm alone, worried and need answers, I call the toll-free psychological helpline: 0800 130 000.
- ON THE USE OF THE SELF-TEST: it must be used in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations for use and the recommendations for the use of self-tests published on the website of the French Ministry of Health (https://solidarites-sante.gouv.fr/soins-et-maladies/maladies/maladies-infectieuses/coronavirus/tout-savoir-sur-le-covid-19/autotests-covid-19). For use in children aged 3 to 15, pharmacists follow the recommendations of the French Pediatric Society. In addition, they systematically provide patients with the Ministry of Health's guide to using the self-test:
Guide d'utilisation pour les plus de 15 ans : http://www.cespharm.fr/fr/Prevention-sante/Catalogue/Autotest-Covid-19-guide-d-utilisation2
Guide for children aged 3 to 15: https://solidarites-sante.gouv.fr/IMG/pdf/guide_auto-test_enfants.pdf
In the event of a negative antigen test
- On an individual basis, a negative result does not rule out the possibility that the person is a Sars-Cov-2 carrier, due to the low sensitivity of these tests.
- On a collective level, it is absolutely essential to continue protecting yourself and others, by following barrier measures.
- In the event of symptoms suggestive of Covid-19 with a negative test, it is necessary to carry out a PCR test, which is more sensitive.
Instructions for use
- Read the instructions in the leaflet carefully
- The test must be performed and read in a room where the ambient temperature is between 15°C and 30°C.
- If the boxes are stored in an area where the temperature is < 15°C, they should be returned to room temperature (15-30°C) before performing the test.
- Imaging, molecular, antigenic and serological tests are complementary and can help to better identify patients carrying the virus, determine their immune status and thus improve their care and management of the epidemic.
