Mosquitoes and tiger mosquitoes both belong to the Culicidae family, but differ in genus and sometimes species. The common mosquito is often of the genus Culex, while the tiger mosquito is specifically identified as Aedes albopictus.

The tiger mosquito is distinguished by its black and white stripes on its body and legs, hence its name. Common mosquitoes are generally plainer in color, often brownish, without the distinctive markings of the tiger mosquito.

Both types of mosquito are hematophagous, meaning they feed on blood to develop their eggs. However, the tiger mosquito has a greater preference for biting during the day, while Culex mosquitoes are most active at dawn and dusk.

Tiger mosquitoes are native to Southeast Asia, but have invaded many parts of the world, including Europe and North America. Common mosquitoes are more ubiquitous and can be found in a variety of environments around the world.

The tiger mosquito is known to be a vector of various diseases such as dengue fever, chikungunya and the Zika virus. Mosquitoes of the Culex genus are often associated with the transmission of West Nile virus and filariasis.

Control measures for both types of mosquito include eliminating sources of stagnant water and using repellents. However, due to their aggressiveness and resistance to certain insecticides, tiger mosquitoes may require more specialized control methods.
