Our advice and expert opinions in pharmacy

How can I prevent bleeding from sensitive gums?

Healthy gums are pink and do not bleed. Repeated bleeding should prompt a consultation with your dental surgeon, to find and treat the cause. Swollen, bleeding gums can be a warning sign of gingivitis. If left untreated, gingivitis can progress to periodontitis.
Do your gums bleed when you brush your teeth or bite into an apple, for example? Or do they bleed spontaneously? This phenomenon is never normal. It may be due to :

Brushing your teeth too aggressively ;
Improper use of interdental brushes;
Improper flossing.

There are a few simple steps you can take, including modifying your daily oral hygiene routine, to prevent the problem from progressing. These steps should be followed every day, not just occasionally when you notice traces of blood when you spit.

  • Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and mild toothpaste and brush your teeth gently.
  • Floss carefully, making sure you reach both sides and all the way to the gums where plaque can hide.
  • Avoid smoking.
  • Look at the medications you've been prescribed and ask your doctor if they play a role in bleeding gums.
  • Keep an eye on your diet, avoiding overly sweet foods that contribute to plaque formation.

1. Is Hextril Mint safe for daily use? Yes, Mint Hextril is designed for daily use as an adjunctive local treatment for mouth disorders. It is recommended to follow the instructions for use supplied with the product.

2. Can I use Hextril Mint if I have tooth sensitivity? Yes, Mint Hextril is gentle and non-irritating to teeth and gums. However, if you have specific concerns about tooth sensitivity, it is always recommended that you consult a healthcare professional before use.

3. How long do I need to use Hextril Mint to see results? Results may vary from person to person, but many users experience relief within the first few uses. For optimum results, we recommend using Hextril Mint regularly, in accordance with the instructions for use.

Its manifestations, varying in intensity, range from the sudden drop in attention (absences, or small evil) to loss of consciousness accompanied by abnormal muscle movements (convulsions, or great evil). Partial epilepsy, as its name implies, does not concern the whole body: the jerky movements only touch one or more muscle groups.
