antiseptic
Substance that locally destroys bacteria, reducing their number and preventing their proliferation. Some antiseptics are also active against microscopic fungi and viruses.

contact lenses
Flexible or rigid optical device placed on the cornea, intended to correct a defect in vision.
The lenses currently used are all made of plastic. There are two types :
  • Rigid lenses, more or less permeable to oxygen. Their small diameter (they do not cover the entire cornea) facilitates oxygenation of the cornea: the oxygen contained in the tears can diffuse under and around the lens.
  • Soft lenses, more or less hydrophilic. They are easier to bear at first, but their large diameter and limited oxygen permeability do not facilitate oxygenation of the cornea. They can pose long-term tolerance problems.
