Our advice and expert opinions

In the body, we find several pigments present in our food: lycopene, betacarotene ... In the center of the retina, we find two particular pigments: lutein and zeaxanthin. These play an essential role in protecting the macula (center of the retina) from oxidation by free radicals and light damage. Their main sources are green vegetables and orange or yellow fruits (clementines, pumpkins, corn, etc.). One study has demonstrated optimal protection against cataracts with a daily intake of 5 to 6 g of these pigments. But that's like eating cabbage or spinach every day.
