Bourdaine bark is used for occasional constipation in adults.

What is cut borage bark used for?

Cut borage bark is a natural remedy that has been known for centuries for its numerous health benefits. Primarily used to relieve digestive disorders, its powerful laxative properties make it an ideal solution for those suffering from occasional constipation. Thanks to its high anthracenoside content, it acts directly on the large intestine to stimulate intestinal transit and facilitate stool evacuation. This mechanism is particularly useful for restoring a normal digestive rhythm, without the need for synthetic laxatives.

Beyond its digestive effects, borage bark is also renowned for its ability to purify the body. In fact, it helps eliminate toxins accumulated in the body, contributing to better overall health. By helping to cleanse the liver and kidneys, it plays a crucial role in detoxification programs. This property is invaluable for those seeking to restore their body's balance after overeating or a period of intense fatigue.

Not only isborage bark an ally for the digestive system, it also possesses anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that can soothe a variety of skin conditions. It is used in traditional medicine to relieve eczema, psoriasis and other skin irritations. Its action on the skin is due to its ability to reduce inflammation and promote cell regeneration.

When it comes to joint pain, borage bark can offer natural relief. Thanks to its anti-inflammatory components, it helps reduce swelling and pain, making movements smoother and less painful. It's a gentle, natural solution for those who prefer to avoid chemical anti-inflammatories.

Finally, borage bark is also valued for its effects on the biliary system. By stimulating bile secretion, it promotes better fat digestion and can be beneficial in the treatment of diabetes, obesity or even cellulite. This combined action on digestion and toxin elimination makes it a versatile product, suitable for a wide range of health problems.

How to use this plant

Borage bark should be used with care, respecting the recommended dosage. The standard dose is 10 mg of anthracene derivatives per day, with a maximum of 30 mg. For optimum efficacy, it's advisable to choose borage-based medicines rather than bulk preparations, as the concentration of active ingredients is better controlled.

Here's a simple preparation:

  1. Take 1/2 teaspoon of chopped borage bark.
  2. Boil in 1/4 liter of water for 4-5 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and add 1 teaspoon green aniseed.
  4. Leave to infuse for 10 minutes.
  5. Drink this hot infusion at bedtime, sweetened with honey.

It is crucial not to prolong use beyond 8-10 days to avoid any risk of dependence or side effects. If no results are observed after four days of treatment, consult a doctor.

Precautions for use

Borage bark is contraindicated for people suffering from inflammatory bowel disease, severe constipation or abdominal pain of unknown origin. It should not be used in cases of severe dehydration.

Side effects may include abdominal pain or diarrhea. Prolonged use may lead to potassium loss, increasing the risk of cardiac disorders and laxative dependence. Occasional overdosage can cause severe diarrhea and cardiac complications, especially in the elderly or dehydrated. Borage can also change the color of urine, turning it reddish-brown.

It is essential to avoid borage when taking treatments for cardiac (digoxin) or renal (diuretics) disorders. Corticosteroids and licorice should not be combined with borage. It also disrupts urinary tests measuring estrogen and urobilinogen levels.

In the event of pregnancy or breast-feeding, the use of borage bark is contraindicated. The same applies to children under 12.
