What is Iphym Herboristerie Galega officinalis used for?
Welcome to our online herb shop, where we offer a wide range of medicinal plants to improve your health and well-being. Today, we'd like to introduce you to a plant with exceptional but often overlooked properties: galéga.
Native to Europe and Asia, galéga, also known as "goat's rue", is a perennial plant traditionally used in folk medicine for its many virtues. Indeed, this plant is packed with active compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids and amino acids, giving it anti-diabetic, diuretic and galactogenic properties.
One of Galéga 's main assets is its hypoglycemic properties. Thanks to the presence of the powerful alkaloid galégine, this plant helps regulate blood sugar levels naturally. By promoting glucose utilization by the cells, galéga can be particularly beneficial for people suffering from type 2 diabetes. By incorporating this plant into your daily routine, you can see a significant improvement in your blood sugar levels, contributing to better diabetes management.
Galéga is also known for its galactogenic effect, i.e. it promotes milk production in nursing mothers. This effect is attributed to its action on the pituitary gland, stimulating the secretion of prolactin, the hormone responsible for lactation. If you find it difficult to produce milk, or simply wish to increase your milk production, Pegasus is a natural ally to support breastfeeding.
Do you suffer from water retention or simply want to detoxify your body? Pegasus has diuretic properties that facilitate the elimination of toxins by the kidneys. By increasing urinary secretion, this plant helps reduce water retention, improving your daily comfort and contributing to a general feeling of lightness.
Pegasus is also highly effective in stimulating digestion. It promotes the production of gastric juices, making it easier to digest food. If you suffer from frequent digestive problems such as bloating or indigestion, Pegasus can be a natural remedy to soothe your stomach and improve digestive comfort.
In addition to its benefits for digestion and blood sugar levels, Pegasus can also help regulate menstrual cycles and relieve associated pain. Indeed, its active compounds act as antispasmodics, reducing painful uterine contractions. For women suffering from dysmenorrhea, this plant can offer natural, effective relief.

Precautions for use
The aerial parts of the plant are toxic in large doses during flowering and fruiting. The "dried" plant is the most dangerous, as it is not very palatable when fresh. Its presence in flowers or with pods in hay should be avoided. Fodder containing 10% Galga can be dangerous for livestock. The toxic dose is 4 kg of fresh plant for a cow, and 400 g of fresh plant or 100 g of dried plant are enough to cause symptoms and death in ewes.
In horses, cases of intoxication have been reported from as little as 40 g of dried plant ingested. Symptoms include dyspnea, foamy discharge, asphyxia and rapid death from pulmonary congestion. Galga is contraindicated for pregnant women and young children (under 6). Avoid prolonged use, and monitor blood sugar levels carefully if you are diabetic. Do not exceed 20 g of plant per liter per day, as there is a risk of hypoglycemia and drug interactions.
