advice

What is a sprain ?
A sprain is a stretch or tear in a ligament. A ligament is a kind of cable uniting two bony pieces forming a joint, it thus allows to stabilize it.

Simple stretching or tearing defines a benign sprain (or strain), breaking a severe sprain. Between the two, there is a medium sprain (significant stretching or touching more than one ligament or a slightly larger tear). The ankle is stabilized by an external ligament made up of 3 bundles, and the internal ligament. The most frequent sprain is benign and concerns one of the bundles of the external ligament.

You must consult a doctor
In case of ankle sprains:

  • if you absolutely cannot lean on your leg to take four steps
  • or if a hematoma (blue) appears within 24 to 48 hours or if there is a very significant deformation or edema (swelling)

In case of knee injuries:

  • in the event of significant swelling of the knee with or without hematoma and / or impossibility of support.

In all cases if there is complete functional impotence, i.e. if you cannot use the upper limb or the lower limb and in the event of a large (blue) hematoma.

Skin reaction (itching, pimples, swelling) or general discomfort that occurs after contact with a particular substance, use of a medication or ingestion of a food. The main forms of allergy are eczema, urticaria, asthma, angioedema and allergic shock (anaphylactic shock). Food allergy can also result in digestive disorders.

antecedent
Affection healed or still evolving. The antecedent can be personal or family. The antecedents are the story of a person's health.

anti-inflammatory
Drug that fights inflammation. It can be either derived from cortisone (steroidal anti-inflammatory drug), or not derived from cortisone (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug or NSAID).
