Macrogol Viatris 10g is a laxative medicine, that is to say allowing to accelerate the intestinal transit , used during the phenomena of constipation (difficulty in having a bowel movement). This laxative has a delay of 24 to 48 hours, so it should not be concluded that the treatment is ineffective before this term.
The causes of constipation are multiple and most often not serious. And, fortunately, simple lifestyle measures are often very effective against this very feminine condition.
Some constipation results from a slowing down of the progression of food along the colon (large intestine). In others, there are difficulties in the evacuation of stools at the level of the rectum (terminal part of the colon) and the anus ("terminal constipation").
Its osmotic power allows it to hydrate the faecal bolus to accelerate transit.
The recommended dosage for treatment with Macrogol Viatris is one to two sachets per day , for adults and children over 8 years of age. The sachets should be taken in the morning, with a large glass of cool water.
In children, the use of this laxative is exceptional and must be initiated and monitored by a doctor.
Laxative treatment should be part of a balanced diet , including sufficient vitamin intake. Indeed, some vitamins can be eliminated more quickly under the effect of laxative treatment. It is therefore sometimes necessary to provide supplementation.
In addition, constipation is primarily treated with a diet rich in fiber and including adequate fluid intake. It is sometimes useful to consume water enriched with magnesium in order to promote the acceleration of transit.
Macrogol Viatris can be used in pregnant or breastfeeding women, preferably on medical advice.
Sodium saccharin (E954), Orange-grapefruit aroma: Orange, Grapefruit, Orange, Citral, Acetic aldehyde, Linalool, Ethyl butyrate, Alpha-terpineol, Octanal, Beta-gamma hexenol, Maltodextrin, Gum arabic (E414), Sorbitol (E420) , Sulfurous anhydride (E220)
Macrogol is a substance that is used to fight against occasional constipation or fecal impactions (severe constipation resulting in an inability to pass stools, sometimes secondary to the consumption of certain drugs). In these situations, this substance may be combined with sodium bicarbonate and/or potassium. Macrogol is also used in preparation of the patient before a surgical intervention or a colonoscopic examination by carrying out a washing of the colon by eliminating all the matters which are there.
In the event of diarrhoea, patients at risk of hydro-electrolyte imbalance should be monitored (eg elderly subjects, patients with hepatic insufficiency or renal insufficiency or on diuretic treatment) and monitoring of electrolytes should be considered.
Drug treatment of constipation is only an adjunct to lifestyle and dietary treatment such as:
This drug contains sorbitol. Its use is not recommended in patients with fructose intolerance (rare hereditary disease).
This medicine contains sulfur dioxide and can cause severe allergic reactions and bronchospasm.
Very rare cases of hypersensitivity reactions (rash, urticaria, oedema) have been described with specialties containing Macrogol (polyethylene glycol). Exceptional cases of anaphylactic shock have been reported.
Macrogol Viatris does not contain a significant amount of sugar or polyol, it can be prescribed to diabetic patients or patients on a galactose-free diet
Macrogol 4000 did not show any teratogenic effect in rats and rabbits.
As the systemic exposure to Macrogol Viatris is negligible, no effects are expected during pregnancy. Macrogol Viatris can be used during pregnancy.
Feeding with milk
Since the systemic exposure to Macrogol Viatris of breast-feeding women is negligible, no effects are expected in breast-fed newborns/infants. Macrogol Viatris can be used during breast-feeding.
Box of 20 sachets.
We tend to forget it but it is also a digestive problem. Constipation is directly related to our way of life and our environment. Its causes are multiple and sometimes difficult to elucidate in the most serious cases. It can have psychological or emotional origins. In the most frequent cases, it corresponds to a simple atony of the digestive tract.
