Advice for using FFP2 and KN95 masks
- Place the mask on the face, the nose clip on the nose
- Pass the elastics behind the ears while holding the mask, without crossing them
- Pinch the nose clip with both hands to adjust it to the level of the nose
- Check that the mask is properly put on. To do this, try the following:
- Cover the surface of the mask with a clean plastic sheet held in place with both hands
- Inhale: the mask is lightly crushed on the face. If the mask does not flatten, it is not waterproof and it must be readjusted
- After several unsuccessful attempts, change model because it is unsuitable
- To remove an FFP2 mask, hold it with one hand and remove the elastics with the other.
- Whatever the type of mask, throw it in a trash can with a plastic bag, then wash your hands.
It is important to learn how to put on this type of FFP2 disposable mask correctly to avoid any contamination by the flu or coronavirus virus, for example .
What are the standards for FFP2 masks for the protection of Covid-19?
These masks must absolutely meet the essential safety requirements of European Directive 89/686/EEC applicable to PPE (standard EN149: 2001). This European standard sets the minimum characteristics of respiratory protection devices. To this end, it carries out various laboratory tests to verify their compliance.
It is preferable that the masks are sold in individual sachets in order to guarantee non-pre-contamination.
Namely: There are only three organizations capable of validating the compliance of FFP2 masks (effectiveness test + manufacturing standards): INRS, Apave and INSPEC.

Faced with the rapid progression of the coronavirus, wearing a protective mask is a complementary measure to the other health and safety measures that have been put in place. Even if wearing a mask is not an obligation in Switzerland, it is still of great importance for the protection of its user and those around him. There are several types of protective masks, but they are not all equal. The KN95 respiratory protection mask is one of the best masks on the market. It filters up to 95% of airborne particles in addition to protecting against dust and gases.
