Echinacea purpurea, also known by its scientific name, is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Asteraceae family. Native to North America, it is widely cultivated for its medicinal and ornamental properties.

Botanically, Purple Echinacea is characterized by its erect stems, which generally reach a height of 60 to 90 centimetres. Its leaves are simple, oval to lanceolate, with a rough texture and slightly serrated edges. Purple Echinacea flowers are remarkable for their vibrant purple color and radiating petals arranged in a daisy-like pattern around the central flower head.

The flower head is made up of numerous small, tubular, fertile flowers. The flowers are surrounded by a conical involucre formed by several pointed bracts. Purple Echinacea generally flowers from summer to early autumn, attracting bees and butterflies with its abundant nectar.
