This medication is an antiseptic used to treat certain superficial eye conditions.

Form: Ophthalmic solution eye drops - 0.4 ml sterile unidose at 0.025%.
Name: Sedacollyre Cetylpyridinium
Class: Ophthalmic antiseptics - Eye drops for local anti-infectives

When eyes tingle, turn red or suffer persistent irritation, we're looking for a treatment that's both effective and gentle. Sedacollyre antiseptic eye drops have been specifically designed to relieve superficial affections of the eye and its appendages. It is a local ophthalmological medication formulated with Cetylpyridinium, a compound renowned for its antiseptic properties. It helps prevent and limit bacterial proliferation on the surface of the eye.

Cetylpyridinium, a quaternary ammonium, has a targeted disinfectant action on ocular mucous membranes. It is particularly indicated in cases where rigorous eye hygiene is required, such as benign conjunctivitis or minor non-infectious trauma. Thanks to its sterile formulation, each application protects the eye against pathogens, while preserving the sensitivity of ocular tissues.

Another distinctive feature of this eye drop is its single-dose 0.4 ml format. This format prevents cross-contamination, which is essential for ophthalmic treatments. Sterile single-dose use guarantees optimum safety, especially for those who are sensitive or prone to recurrent infections. And since each dose is independent, there's no wastage, and the product remains fresh every time it's instilled.

Another plus: this medication is preservative-free, which reduces the risk of allergic reactions or irritation associated with prolonged use. What's more, the single-dose device is easy to handle, making it ideal for elderly patients or those who have difficulty applying conventional eye drops. A simple press is all it takes to administer the drop, without any contact with the eye.

As a short 7-day treatment, Sedacollyre offers an effective, well-tolerated solution to soothe irritated eyes. It is also compatible with other eye drops (provided there is a delay between each instillation), enabling complete management of ophthalmic conditions, even in the case of combined treatment. This antiseptic eye drop complements anti-inflammatory or moisturizing treatments, when an antimicrobial barrier is required.

How to use this eye drop

Insert 1 drop into the lower conjunctival cul-de-sac of the eye to be treated, 3 to 4 times a day, for up to 7 days. To do this, gently pull the lower eyelid downwards while looking upwards, and gently squeeze the unit-dose to deliver the drop, without ever touching the eye. Each single-dose container must be used immediately after opening and must not be stored. To ensure safe ophthalmic application, wash your hands thoroughly before and after each use.

Our expert opinion

The benefits of antiseptic eye drops
Infectious diseases of the eye include a number of pathologies whose severity varies according to the structure of the eye affected and the nature of the infectious agent. Bacteria, viruses, fungi or parasites can infect the eye and surrounding tissues.
Over-the-counter antiseptic eye drops are used for eyes affected by a bacterial infection causing purulent discharge. This is the type of eye drop recommended for chalazion or stye, or for itchy eyes. Red-eye eye drops are recommended for conjunctivitis. It can be used for two or three days, but if symptoms persist, it's best to make an appointment with your ophthalmologist.

When opening eye drops, make sure to note the opening date on the bottle, as opened bottles generally cannot be kept for longer than 15 (or 30) days (depending on the active ingredient).
