What are Activated Charcoal Carbosylane and Simeticone used for?

Carbosylane is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of dyspeptic states (difficult digestion) and meteorism (intestinal bloating).

It contains activated charcoal and simethicone.

Carbosylane comes in the form of a dose of two twin capsules (gastro-soluble blue capsule and gastro-resistant red capsule), to be taken simultaneously. Thus, Carbosylane treats the stomach and the intestine independently.

Dyspepsia: what is it ?
Dyspepsia correspond to uncomfortable sensations felt in the upper part of the digestive tract (stomach, esophagus), whereas the latter does not present any particular abnormalities and is found to be healthy during the various examinations. The patient describes variable symptoms:

  • discomfort,
  • bloating,
  • pain,
  • nausea,
  • belching.

There is no lesion that can explain these disorders (these are functional disorders).

How to take this medication for bloating?

Oral route.

The dosage is 3 doses (blue capsule + red capsule) per day, 3 times a day to be taken before or after the main meals.

Usual treatment duration of 10 days.

Take Carbosylane away (+ 2 hours if possible) from all other medications.

Precautions for use

  • Reserved for adults and children over 6 years old.
  • Hyper-sensitivity to one of the compounds.
  • Child under 6 years old (risk of inhaling the capsule)
  • Considered use during pregnancy only if necessary.
  • If in doubt, do not hesitate to seek the advice of your pharmacist or doctor.

Composition

Composition of a capsule:

  • 140mg Activated Charcoal
  • 45 mg of Simeticone.

Excipients : Sorbitan oleate and polysorbate 80.

For a blue or red capsule:

  • Blue capsule shell : Gelatin, indigotine (8132), titanium dioxide (E171).
  • Red capsule shell: Gelatin, erythrosine (8127), titanium dioxide (El71), indigotine (8132).
  • Enteric coating of the red capsule : Cellulose acetate phthalate, diethyl phthalate.

Drug interactions : This drug can reduce the absorption of other drugs, these must be administered away from it.

Presentation

Boxes of 30 or 48 doses of 2 twin capsules (blue and red)
