What is Capstar for large dogs used for?
Treatment of flea infestations in dogs weighing over 11 kg. Capstar Large Dogs 57 mg in packs of 6 tablets is a fast-acting flea repellent. Fleas start to fall off in 15 to 30 minutes. Capstar kills virtually 100% of adult fleas in 4 to 6 hours. It is administered orally, with or without meals. Capstar belongs to a new family of insecticides: neonicotinoids.
The active ingredient, nitenpyram, belongs to the neonicotinoid class.
It binds to and inhibits insect-specific nicotinic cholinergic receptors. It interrupts nerve conduction in adult fleas, leading to their death. Nitenpyram does not inhibit acetylcholinesterase.
The effect on fleas (Ctenocephalides felis) is visible 15 to 30 minutes after administration to the host animal. This coincides with the fleas' first blood meal, when the effective blood concentration of the drug is reached. Efficacy against fleas is 95-100% within 6 hours of administration, and 100% within 24 hours, with no residual activity.
Capstar® has been shown to kill over 98% of adult fleas living on the animal within 6 hours, and 100% of these are eliminated 24 hours after a single administration.
It is important to treat all animals cohabiting with the flea-infested animal(s). Since immature fleas continue to develop in the environment of infested animals for several weeks after administration of Capstar®, several treatments of Capstar® or a combination of different flea control products may be necessary to completely eradicate a flea infestation.

How to use this flea repellent
The minimum effective dose is 1 mg/kg, with the following recommendations:
one tablet should be given to dogs weighing between 11.1 kg and 57 kg, and two tablets to dogs over 57 kg when a flea infestation is identified.
Treatment frequency depends on the degree of flea infestation. In the case of severe infestation, it may be necessary to treat animals every day or every other day until all fleas have been eliminated. Treatment can be repeated if fleas reappear. Do not administer more than one treatment per day.
Tablets should be administered orally, with or without food. To facilitate administration, Capstar 57mg tablets can be hidden in a small amount of food just before taking.
The product has no residual activity. To prevent re-infestation, we recommend combining it with a drug that treats immature flea stages, such as Program M, a veterinary product that sterilizes flea eggs.
Your veterinarian can draw up an appropriate treatment program.
