DulcoSoft is a medical device whose main component is macrogol® 4000, an osmotic laxative. Macrogol® 4000 has a high water retention capacity. It serves as a support for transporting the liquid (water) and delays the intestinal absorption of water, resulting in an increase in the amount of water in the cone. It softens the hard stools and increases their volume. This leads to speeding up the transit and making the escape easier, offering a feeling of natural relief. The macrogol 4000 has a purely physical mode of action: it is not absorbed by the body and is excreted in unchanged form.
DulcoSoft is prescribed to relieve constipation and soften hard stools.
DulcoSoft has a flavourless taste and can be dissolved (pouch) or mixed directly (drinkable solution) in water or in a cold or hot beverage (approx. 150 ml): glass of water , fruit juice or tea for example.
Unless otherwise prescribed by the physician, the recommended dose is 20 to 40 ml of solution (dose measured using the measuring cup) or 1 to 2 sachets per day (equivalent to 10 to 20 g of macrogol 4000), preferably in a single dose in the morning.
The recommended dose above is to be adapted according to the individual needs. It can go from 1 taken per day to 1 taken every 2 days. The appropriate dose is the lowest to produce regular soft stools.
DulcoSoft usually requires 24 to 72 hours to effect. It should not be taken for more than 15 days. If constipation persists, the cause should be sought.
Do not take a double dose of DulcoSoft if you miss the previous dose.
Excessive doses of DulcoSoft are likely to cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, abdominal distention or vomiting which stop when treatment is discontinued or the dose decreased.
Large fluid losses due to diarrhea or vomiting may require correction of the electrolyte deficiency. Under these circumstances, contact a doctor.
In case of pregnancy or breast-feeding DulcoSoft can be taken, however, it is recommended to seek advice from a physician before using DulcoSoft.
