However, some people complain of constipation even though they don't fall into this category. For example, if they have three or four bowel movements a week, suffer from painful bowel movements, or if their periods of constipation last less than a month but recur several times a year. In such cases, the treatment will not be that of constipation, but that of the causes of the complaints: in the case of pain, for example, hemorrhoids or anal fissures may be evoked. It's also sometimes useful to remember that our bodies have their own rhythms, and that if bowel movements don't occur as often as we'd like, it's not necessarily a disease!

Description of Forlax 10g 20 Sachets

Forlax 10g 20 Sachets contains an osmotic laxative. It increases the amount of water in the faeces, helping to resolve problems caused by slow intestinal transit. Forlax is not absorbed into the bloodstream and remains unchanged in the body. It is indicated for the treatment of constipation in adults and children over 8 years of age. The treatment of constipation with medication must be combined with a healthy lifestyle and diet.

Indications for FORLAX ADULTE 10GR Constipation 10 SACHETS

FORLAXLIB is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of occasional constipation in adults, as a complement to lifestyle and dietary advice. It should be used as an adjunct to hygienic dietary treatment. This is based on enriching the diet with plant fibers and beverages, appropriate physical activity and re-education of exoneration.

Properties of FORLAX

PEG or macrogol, osmotic laxatives without colonic fermentation
Osmotic laxatives increase stool hydration by drawing water into the colonic lumen. Stools are evacuated more easily. They are abundant and soft.
They are recommended as a 1st-line alternative to ballast laxatives. Effects begin 24 to 48 hours after administration.

PEGs or macrogols are mixtures of high-molecular-weight polyethylene glycol (PEG) polymers. Unlike polyol laxatives (lactulose, sorbitol and lactitol), however, they are neither absorbed nor fermented.
For the same osmotic load, the laxative effect of PEGs is therefore usually higher, and without the induction of colonic fermentation, potentially responsible for abdominal pain, bloating or flatulence.

Directions for use and dosage

  • Dosage is 1 to 2 sachets a day, preferably in the morning.
  • The powder should be dissolved in water just before administration.
  • Treatment should be taken over a short period.
  • Medical advice is required if symptoms do not improve after one week's treatment.

The usual dose is 1 to 2 sachets a day, preferably taken once in the morning. The daily dose may be adapted to the effect obtained and may vary from 1 sachet every 2 days (in children in particular) to a maximum of 2 sachets per day.

Please note that :

  • Forlax usually takes effect within 24 to 48 hours.
  • In children, treatment with Forlax should not exceed 3 months.
  • The improvement in your intestinal transit after taking Forlax can be maintained by adopting a healthy lifestyle and diet.

There are many causes of constipation, most of which are not serious. And, fortunately, simple lifestyle measures are often highly effective against this very feminine condition.
In some cases, constipation is the result of a slowdown in the progress of food through the colon (large intestine). In other cases, there are difficulties in evacuating stool from the rectum (end of the colon) and the anus ("terminal constipation").

Our advice and expert opinions in pharmacy

Constipation can be either transit (or progressive), i.e. stools stagnate too long in the colon, or terminal (or evacuation), i.e. they accumulate in the rectum. The 2 problems can coexist in the same person.

What causes constipation?

Two mechanisms are most often involved:

  • Laziness" of the large intestine: the tube contracts little or poorly, and stools progress slowly;
  • Stool "dryness": one of the functions of the colon wall is to reabsorb water from fecal matter. In the absence of regular and sufficient hydration, this reabsorption of water in the large intestine can lead to the formation of hard, dry faeces, making them difficult to eliminate.

Borage for occasional constipation

Borage grows in the humid forests of Europe. Thedried bark of borage (frangula alnus) is used to combat constipation. In this way, intestinal muscle tissue is stimulated to promote the passage of stool through the colon. Borage also hydrates dry stools in the colon, helping to expel them.

GLOSSARY (summary)

osmotic laxative
Laxative to make stools more liquid by retaining water in the contents of the intestine. It is devoid of toxicity.

edema
Accumulation of water or lymph causing localized swelling.

allergic reaction
Reaction due to hypersensitivity of the organism to a drug. Allergic reactions can take a wide variety of aspects: urticaria, angioedema, eczema, eruption of pimples resembling measles, etc. Anaphylactic shock is a generalized allergic reaction that causes discomfort due to a sudden drop in blood pressure.

overdose
Excessive intake of a drug may result in an increase in the intensity of adverse effects or even in the development of specific adverse effects.
This overdose may result from accidental or voluntary poisoning for suicide, so consult your local Poison Control Center (listed in the appendix to the book). However, in most cases, overdose is the result of an error in the understanding of the prescription, or the search for an increase in efficacy by exceeding the recommended dosage. Finally, untimely self-medication may lead to excessive absorption of the same substance contained in different drugs. Some drugs are particularly prone to this risk because they are (wrongly) considered to be harmless: vitamins A and D, aspirin, etc. Stopping or decreasing drug intake helps to remove the disorders associated with an overdose.

symptomatic treatment
Treatment that suppresses or alleviates the symptoms of a disease without addressing its cause.

urticaria
Eruption of pimples on the skin, whose origin is mostly allergic. The buds look like nettles and their color varies from pale pink to red.

Advice from our naturopaths

Why is it essential to get plenty of fiber? Why is it essential to get plenty of fiber?

Dietary fibres are carbohydrate polymers, mainly of plant origin. These edible carbohydrates, of very heterogeneous origin and chemical composition, cannot be digested or absorbed in the human small intestine. They therefore pass intact into the colon, where they are fermented by the intestinal microbiota. This fermentation leads to the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) such as acetate, propionate and butyrate,…
