Indication :

  • Constipation
  • Palliative care

Whether occasional or persistent, constipation affects 1 in 4 people, 80% of whom are women. Constipation occurs when stools are hard, dry and difficult to evacuate. In general, constipation is diagnosed when the number of bowel movements falls below 3 per week. Occasional constipation usually results in bloating and intestinal pain, but can lead to serious complications.

Lubricating laxatives work by facilitating stool output with the aid of "fatty" substances (liquid kerosene). Prolonged use can reduce the absorption of certain vitamins (A, D, E, K). Some laxatives combine liquid kerosene with a ballast laxative, an osmotic laxative or a stimulant laxative.

Description of Parapsyllium Laxative

Parapsyllium Laxative 10 g sachets contain a ballast laxative (psyllium) and a lubricating laxative (liquid kerosene). Psyllium is a natural substance that is neither digested nor absorbed. It soaks up water, making stools bulkier and less firm. It is used in the symptomatic treatment of constipation.

  • Lubricating laxatives provide a fatty substance(kerosene), covering the colon and stool with an impermeable layer that keeps the stool soft and allows it to slide more easily through the intestine, while retaining its moisture.
  • Ballast laxatives, as their name suggests, are designed to ballast your stools, increasing their volume but also softening them. Technically speaking, ballast laxatives are made up of fibers and mucilages (such as those found in psyllium) which, in the presence of water, swell and, through a purely mechanical reaction, make your stools bulkier and softer, making them easier to expel.

How to use Parapsyllium Laxative

Dilute Parapsyllium Laxative 10 g sachets with a large glass of water or fruit juice. Stir and drink immediately.
Usual dosage: 1 tablespoon or 1 sachet, at bedtime.

Parapsyllium is composed of pulverized mucilaginous psyllium or ispaghul seed coat (3.33g) and microencapsulated liquid kerosene (3.33g).
Parapsyllium's other excipients are sorbitol, mango flavoring, apricot flavoring and anhydrous colloidal silica.

fecal impaction
Stool plug in the rectum or in the colon. It is to be feared in the elderly or constipated, or those who remain bedridden for a long time. It exposes to a risk of obstruction of the digestive tract.

intolerance
Undesirable effect, most often digestive, when taking a drug. The irritation of the stomach due to aspirin is intolerance and not an allergy.

laxative of ballast
Laxative which has the property of swelling on contact with water: it increases the volume of the stools and makes them less hard. It is devoid of toxicity.

lubricating laxative
It is a fatty substance, not absorbed by the intestine, which facilitates the transit and the elimination of the stool. It is devoid of toxicity, but its prolonged use reduces the absorption of certain essential vitamins (A, D, E, K).

symptomatic treatment
Treatment that suppresses or alleviates the symptoms of a disease without addressing its cause.

vitamins
An essential ingredient for the growth and proper functioning of the body. Vitamin requirements are normally covered by a varied diet. In developed countries, only vitamin D deficiency, in the young child or the old man who is exposed to the sun, justifies systematic supplementation. Superior intake, especially with medicines, can lead to overdose and various disorders (mainly vitamins A and D).

Biliary
