What is Docteur Valnet Lavender aspic organic essential oil used for?
Lavender aspic essential oil has anti-inflammatory, healing, vulnerary, analgesic and antitoxic properties when applied to the skin. It is also antiviral and a moderate antibacterial fungicide. It is an immunostimulant, anticatarrhal and expectorant.
There are some thirty species of lavender, including true or fine lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), which grows above 800 m, and aspic lavender or "big lavender", found below this altitude. Lavandin is the result of crossing the pollens of these 2 lavender species. Compared with true lavender essential oil, lavender aspic essential oil (Lavandula latifolia - family Lamiaceae) contains high levels of cineole-1,8 and linalool, as well as camphor.
The camphor component promotes localized analgesic and anti-inflammatory action and induces a rubefacient effect through peripheral vasodilatation. The 1,8-cineole agent demonstrates anti-inflammatory capacity in in vitro conditions on monocytes in response to pro-inflammatory agents such as lipopolysaccharides or interleukin-1β. The cortison-like effect oneczema is notable.
1,8-cineole relaxes tracheal smooth muscles in response to acetylcholine. Linalool also has spasmolytic effects on intestinal and tracheal smooth muscle, probably through stimulation of adenylate cyclase and subsequent increase in cAMP.
It has an antimicrobial action, notably against Staphylococcus aureus, and a fungicidal action, including on Candida strains resistant to the usual antifungal treatments. Linalool has antiviral activity, particularly against type 2 Adenoviruses, associated with respiratory and gastrointestinal infections. In addition, 1,8-cineole stimulates the exocrine glands of the respiratory mucosa, facilitating expectoration and fluidification of bronchial secretions.
Linalool modulates excitatory neurotransmitter activity by inhibiting glutamate binding, and consequently interferes with glutamatergic transmission, and inhibits acetylcholine release.
