What is Dr Valnet Wintergreen Organic Essential Oil 10ml used for?
Wintergreen essential oil has analgesic, vulnerary and anti-inflammatory properties. It is antirheumatic, antibacterial and antioxidant. It is an antispasmodic and antitussive essential oil.
Wintergreen is an evergreen shrub 15 to 30 cm high, with evergreen leaves and scarlet edible fruit. Wintergreen essential oil is characterized by its high methyl salicylate content (+90%).
Organic Wintergreen essential oil, developed by Dr Valnet, is recognized for its powerful anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. It acts as a circulatory anti-inflammatory, inhibiting prostaglandins and the release of inflammatory mediators such as bradykinin. Also endowed with antispasmodic properties, this essential oil is an effective non-opioid painkiller. Unlike aspirin, it has the advantage of promoting wound healing, while also having anticoagulant and antiplatelet effects. Its use in locoregional applications is particularly beneficial for peripheral vascular disorders, where it acts as a vascular protector.
Wintergreen essential oil has febrifuge properties, acting through vasodilatation and sweating. This action helps regulate body temperature in the event of fever, offering a natural and effective way to manage feverish states. This essential oil induces dilation of blood vessels and becomes rubefacient, i.e. it causes reddening of the skin, particularly when used in concentrations of 10-30%. This property is beneficial for stimulating local circulation and relieving muscle or joint pain.
In addition to these main properties, wintergreen essential oil is also hypotensive, hepato-stimulating, pelvic decongestant, vulnerary, antirheumatic, antibacterial and antioxidant. It also has antispasmodic and antitussive effects, making it a versatile remedy for many ailments.
The main component of Wintergreen essential oil, methyl salicylate, represents over 95% of its composition. Converted into salicylic acid by skin esterases, it inhibits the synthesis of pro-inflammatory mediators, including prostaglandins E2. Methyl salicylate also acts as an analgesic, reducing the production of pro-inflammatory mediators and activating TRPV-1 receptors, thereby reducing the sensation of pain. As a vasodilator, it dilates blood vessels locally, producing a warming effect after cutaneous application. Wintergreen essential oil also has antiprotozoal and antispasmodic properties.
