What is Docteur Valnet Ylang-ylang organic essential oil used for?

Ylang-ylang essential oil has aphrodisiac, euphoric, sedative and anti-depressant properties. It is a central nervous system relaxant, analgesic, antisapasmodic, hypotensive and antiarrhythmic.

Ylang-ylang (Cananga odorata - Anonaceae family) is a tropical tree that can grow up to 12 meters tall. Around the age of 10, it bears around 10 to 12 kg of flowers, whose subtle aroma is appreciated by connoisseurs... This essential oil is also used in the composition of many famous perfumes. Ylang-ylang is also renowned for its soothing properties.

Ylang-ylang (Cananga odorata) essential oil has a complex chemical composition that includeslinalyl acetate, known for its sedative, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and spasmolytic effects.

Main properties and effects

  • Sedation and Anxiety: Research indicates that inhalation of Ylang-ylang essential oil can reduce physiological markers of stress, such as blood cortisol, and lower blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Cutaneous applications have also been shown to reduce heart and respiratory rates.
  • Repellent action: Ylang-ylang oil is an effective repellent against the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the vector of dengue fever. It has a limited action as an insecticide and ovicide.
  • Cardioregulation: In aromatherapy, the oil is used to regulate heart rhythm, particularly in cases of tachycardia, and to reduce blood pressure.
  • Antimicrobial and Antifungal properties: Its activity is proven against Gram-positive bacteria, Aspergillus and Candida.
  • Seborrhea regulation: Studies underline its beneficial effect on regulating sebum production.
  • Anti-inflammatory: The presence of linalool in Ylang-ylang oil inhibits the enzyme lipoxygenase, contributing to its anti-inflammatory effect.

What are the precautions for use?

  • Not recommended for pregnant women, as it is urotonic.
  • Do not use undiluted (dermocautic), always dilute.
  • Not recommended for breast-feeding women, as it cuts off lactation
