Cristal Glycerine suppositories for the treatment of constipation in children

Glycerine suppositories are rectally administered laxatives. Suppositories trigger a contraction of the rectum, allowing stools to be evacuated when they accumulate in the rectum and repeated pushing does not allow them to be evacuated. Glycerine suppositories can also be used to prepare the rectum for rectoscopy.

Description of Cristal Enfants laxatif 10 Suppositoires glycérine

CRISTAL children's glycerine suppositories, box of 10, are indicated for the symptomatic treatment of low-grade constipation, notably due to rectal dyschezia. Also indicated in preparation for endoscopic examinations of the rectum.

Dyschezia is also known as terminal constipation. A study of over 7,000 people in the general population showed that symptoms of dyschezia are observed in one French person in five, with a slight female predominance.
Symptoms of dyschezia
The most frequent complaint is difficulty in evacuating stools, requiring intense abdominal thrusting, often necessitating digital maneuvers and the use of suppositories or micro enemas, accompanied by a sensation of incomplete evacuation of the rectum. Stool frequency is normal. The need for exoneration is most often daily.

Instructions for use and advice on Cristal glycerine suppositories

Usual dose: 1 suppository for children 5 to 30 minutes before the chosen time for exoneration, to be repeated within half an hour in the event of stubborn constipation. Rectal route.

For infants, glycerine suppositories are more suitable.

Our expert opinion on the treatment of constipation

Modify your diet to treat constipation

The treatment of constipation is essentially based on hygienic and dietetic measures: a fiber-rich diet, magnesium-rich drinking water, regular physical activity and improved toilet positioning.

Constipation in children is often linked to a diet that is too low in fiber. The solution: increase consumption of fruit, vegetables and wholegrain cereals. For example, replace white bread with wholemeal bread, white pasta with wholemeal pasta... Focus on fiber-rich fruit, such as prunes, and green vegetables. On the other hand, limit starchy foods (rice, potatoes) and certain vegetables such as carrots. You can also opt for natural supplements such as psyllium, diluted in a glass of water, or oat bran. In all cases, start with small quantities.

They therefore pass intact into the colon, where they are fermented by the intestinal microbiota. This fermentation leads to the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) such as acetate, propionate and butyrate,…
