This medication contains locally acting antacids . They work by neutralizing the acids secreted by the stomach. It is used in the treatment of heartburn and heartburn.

Description of Rennie Mint heartburn

This class of anti-acid will neutralize the acidity of the stomach.

  • baking soda (NaHCO3), this preparation sold in the form of a sachet prepared in pharmacies should not be used too much , because it can cause bloating and hypertension. A risk of "rebound", that is to say an increase in acidity over time, may be associated with this preparation.
  • calcium carbonate (CaCO3), active ingredient of the drug * Rennie®, not to be used for too long, beware of the risk of hypercalcemia.

Using advice and opinion on Rennie Mint ACID LIFT

  • 1 to 2 tablets at the time of heartburn or acid reflux, or 4 to 8 tablets per day. In case of more severe pain, the dosage may be increased, for a brief period, to 12 tablets per day

If the symptoms persist despite the use of Rennie at a high dosage, we recommend the drug Nexium Control esomeprazole 20 mg (inexium without prescription) in treatment of one to two weeks.

Composition of Rennie Mint 96 chewable tablets without sugar

Calcium carbonate 680 mg, Heavy magnesium carbonate 80 mg, Excipients: potato starch, pregelatinized corn starch, magnesium stearate, talc, light liquid paraffin, mint flavor, lemon flavor, sucrose as one tablet.

Precaution for use with Rennie Mint without sugar

In the event of persistence of the disorders beyond 10 days of treatment or worsening of the disorders, an etiological research must be carried out and the conduct to be taken re-evaluated.

  • This medication should not be used for a course of more than 10 days: undesirable effects have been observed when combined with thiazide diuretics or in patients taking large amounts of milk or milk products, especially during prolonged treatments .
  • If you are led to exceed 4 to 8 tablets per day, this treatment should be short-lived, should not be continued after the disappearance of symptoms and should not exceed 12 tablets per day.
  • This medicine contains 475 mg of sucrose per tablet: take this into account in the daily ration.

Side effects :

  • Related to magnesium: possibility of diarrhea in high doses.

The advice of your pharmacy

This drug RENNIE BAYER MENTHE 96 TABLETS may be freely available in some pharmacies; however, do not hesitate to ask your pharmacist for advice. Eating a balanced diet, chewing slowly, cutting out hard-to-digest foods and alcoholic beverages can often help alleviate symptoms of acid reflux or inflammation of the stomach. If you are a smoker, continuing to smoke is a major obstacle to treatment: nicotine increases gastric acidity and reduces the efficiency of the muscle that closes the junction between the esophagus and the stomach. For more details see our advice section: Gastric reflux.

What to take in case of heartburn?

The role of the stomach is to start digesting food while killing the microbes that accompany it. To digest food, the stomach submits it to powerful acidity. The stomach is lined with gastric mucus which protects it from this acidity. The relationship between protection (by gastric mucus) and acidity is balanced.

But it happens that the gastric acid is secreted in too large quantity or that the gastric mucus performs less well its role of shield, the balance is then broken and heartburn appears.

The most common symptoms are a burning sensation, pain, stomach cramps. These ailments are localized towards the top of the abdomen, in the hollow of the stomach, behind the sternum, at the level of the chest. Symptoms most often appear after meals or at bedtime.

GLOSSARY (summary)

NSAIDs
Abbreviation for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Family of anti-inflammatory drugs that are not derived from cortisone (steroids), and the best known of which is aspirin.

antacids
A drug that neutralizes the acidity of gastric secretions or blocks the glands responsible for acid secretion.

antibiotics
A substance capable of blocking the multiplication of certain bacteria or killing them. The spectrum of an antibiotic is the set of bacteria on which this product is usually active. Unlike bacteria, viruses are not susceptible to antibiotics. The first antibiotics were extracted from mushroom cultures: penicillium (penicillin), streptomyces (streptomycin). They are currently manufactured by chemical synthesis. Antibiotics are divided into families: penicillins, cephalosporins, macrolides, tetracyclines (cyclines), sulphonamides, aminoglycosides, lincosanides, phenicolates, polymyxins, quinolones, imidazoles, etc.
Inappropriate use of antibiotics may lead to the development of resistance: use antibiotics only on medical prescription, adhere to its dosage and duration, do not give or advise another person an antibiotic prescribed for you .

inflammation
Natural reaction of the organism against an element recognized as foreign. It manifests itself locally by redness, heat, pain or swelling.

renal failure
Inability of the kidneys to eliminate waste or medicinal substances. Advanced renal insufficiency does not necessarily result in a decrease in the amount of urine excreted. Only a blood test and creatinine dosage may reveal this disease.

mucous
Tissue (membrane) that lines the cavities and ducts of the body communicating with the outside (digestive tract, respiratory tract, urinary tract, etc.).

symptoms
Trouble felt by a person with an illness. The same symptom can translate different diseases and the same disease does not necessarily give the same symptoms in all the patients.
