What is Advantix Medium Dog 10 to 25 kg used for?
Advantix Medium Dog is an anti-parasite treatment that prevents and treats flea, tick, mosquito and sandfly infestations.
- Fleas are killed within 24 hours of treatment. A single treatment prevents flea reinfestation for 4 weeks. The product can be integrated into a therapeutic program for Flea Allergy Dermatitis (FAD ). The product has acaricidal repellent efficacy, persisting for 4 weeks (Rhipicaphalus Sanguineus, Ixodes Ricinus) and 3 weeks (Derlacentor Reticulatis).
- Ticks already present on the dog at the time of treatment may not be killed during the 2 days following treatment, and may remain attached and visible. It is therefore advisable to remove any ticks present at the time of treatment, to prevent them attaching to the dog and taking a blood meal. A single treatment repels sandflies for 2 to 3 weeks, mosquitoes for 2 to 4 weeks and stable flies for 4 weeks.
Advantix Medium Dog (between 10 and 25 kg) is extremely dangerous in cats and can be lethal, given cats' particular physiology and their inability to metabolize certain compounds such as permethrin. To avoid accidental exposure of cats to the product, keep treated dogs away from cats until the application site is completely dry. It is important that cats do not lick the application site of a recently treated dog. If this happens, contact your vet immediately.
Fleas are the main ectoparasites encountered. Their presence can manifest itself in mild to intense itching, allergic dermatitis (hypersensitivity reaction to flea saliva), and infestations of Dipylidium intestinal worms.
Ticks are well-known ectoparasites in certain regions, notably hunting areas and woodlands. The main tick species are responsible for transmitting piroplasmosis, borreliosis (Lyme disease) andehrlichiosis. What's more, Lyme disease is a zoonosis, meaning that humans can also contract the condition.
We also offer Advantix flea pipettes for large dogs from the Elanco veterinary laboratory, at the best prices in our online pharmacy.
How do I apply Advantix to a medium-sized dog?
Detach a pipette and hold it upright. Open the pipette by unscrewing the cap. Use the cap upside down to screw and perforate the pipette orifice.
Part the animal's hair at the base of the neck until the skin is visible. Place the tip on the skin and press firmly several times to empty the contents directly onto the skin. Application at the base of the neck helps prevent licking. Ensure that animals do not lick each other after treatment. Hyper-salivation may occur, but is temporary and not serious.
Precautions for use
Do not use on cats. Refer to instructions.
Do not allow dogs to come into contact with the aquatic environment for at least 48 hours after application, as the product may be harmful to aquatic organisms.
