What is Pranarom German chamomile essential oil used for?
German chamomile, or chamomile matricaria, is a small herbaceous plant native to Europe and Western Asia. It owes its name to its place in Germanic and Norse mythology, as it is symbolically one of the 9 sacred plants that Odin, the God of Heaven, offered to mankind to cure any ailment they might encounter. Pranarom's German chamomile essential oil is the result of distillation of the flowers, which appear between May and October, with white petals and a yellow heart.
Its virtues are said to be numerous and very powerful, the first of which is found in oral administration, which requires a therapist's or doctor's prescription to certify its usefulness and dosage. It could, however, be used to soothe and treat respiratory allergies.
Diffusion is also possible, butolfaction is preferred for this essential oil, as it is a little more effective and, above all, less expensive. It also has the great quality of calming the nervous system, and is ideally suited to cases of agitation, anxiety, anguish, emotional shock, nervous breakdown, heightened sensitivity, stress or overwork.
However, it is when applied topically that the active principles of German chamomile essential oil best express themselves. First and foremost, it is anti-inflammatory, relieving arthritis, sprains, herniated discs, muscle strains, neuralgia and rheumatism.
German chamomile essential oil is also said to have antiallergic and antipruritic properties, helping to treat skin allergies, pruritus and psoriasis. Also recognized as an antispasmodic, it is said to have an effect on spasmodic abdominal pain, which is accompanied by stomachic benefits, as it helps restore appetite and ease difficult digestion. Finally, it is ideal for combating menopausal discomforts, as well as for its positive effects on absent, irregular or painful periods.
