Our expert opinion

There are a number of signs that your pet is ill and may have cat herpes:

  • strong nasal secretion
  • strong ocular secretion.

These changes will be accompanied by :

  • sneezing fits
  • chronic coughing
  • an increase in fever
  • lack of appetite

The two main agents responsible are feline herpesvirus (FHV) and feline calicivirus (FCV), both of which are widespread throughout the world. They affect not only cats, but also other felids.
The viruses responsible for cat coryza are easily spread by droplets in the air when a cat sneezes, and by discharge from the eyes and nose.
