Our skin reacts instantly (and disproportionately) to certain products or in certain situations? She may be sensitive. It is therefore necessary to treat it with care which respects its sensitivity and to show a very great softness not to attack it more.
What exactly is sensitive skin?
Sensitive or intolerant skin is not a skin type, but rather a skin type. A person with oily or dry skin may also have sensitized skin at some point in their life.
Sensitive skin is hyper-reactive skin that is used to tingling, heating, tingling and itching, sometimes accompaniedby redness . These feelings of discomfort appear exacerbated in reaction to stimuli that would not trigger irritation on normal skin.
What are the factors that sensitize the skin?
This hyper-sensitivity of the skin comes from a decrease in its tolerance threshold. The more sensitive the skin develops, the more its tolerance threshold is reduced.
It can be explained by different factors:
- An inflammatory reaction that develops on contact with irritating chemical particles such as certain soaps, household detergents or pollution.
- A barrier dysfunction of the epidermis. This phenomenon then promotes dehydration of the skin and especially the penetration of potentially irritating agents.
- Psychological factors like stress.
- Hormonal factors (menstrual cycle, menopause).
- Physical factors: sun, temperature changes (hot / cold), wind, air conditioning, heating, hard water.
