What is Docteur Valnet Atlas Cedar Organic Essential Oil used for?
Atlas cedar essential oil has lymphotonic and diuretic properties. It is healing, astringent, scalp tonic and antifungal. It is also a mosquito repellent, a moth repellent (use of cedar wood in wardrobes) and a relaxant (by inhalation).
A large, majestic tree growing in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco and Algeria at between 1200 and 3000 m, Atlas cedar (Pinaceae family) produces a highly resistant wood. The essential oil extracted from the wood shavings gives off a rich, woody fragrance, with beneficial emotional effects.
Atlas Cedar essential oil, extracted from Cedrus atlantica, is rich in sesquiterpenic ketones, sesquiterpenic carbides and atlantones, giving it a wide range of therapeutic properties.
Chemical composition and main therapeutic properties :
- Lipolytic property: Traditionally recognized for combating cellulite, the essential oil is presumed to stimulate lipid breakdown and promote lymphatic drainage, thanks to atlantones.
- Lymphotonic and decongestant activity: Contributes to lymphatic and venous circulation, helping to relieve heavy legs and water retention.
- Antibacterial properties: In vitro, it has been shown to inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria such as E. coli, P. aeruginosa, K. pneumoniae, S. aureus, E. faecalis, B. sphericus and S. intermédius.
- Analgesic and relaxing effect: Studies on animal models indicate a reduction in post-operative pain, suggesting an interaction with modular pain pathways.
- Insect repellent and insecticidal properties: Although its anti-moth efficacy is anecdotal, it is used for its repellent scent, and its larvicidal effects have been observed against mosquito larvae.
- Antifungal action: The essential oil has antifungal activity, notably against wood-degrading fungi and certain cereal pathogens.
Secondary properties :
- Healing: Promotes skin regeneration.
- Anti-inflammatory: Reduces inflammatory reactions.
- Expectorant: Helps eliminate bronchial secretions.
