What is Docteur Valnet Ciste ladanifère Organic Essential Oil used for?

Cistus ladanifera essential oil has astringent, hemostatic and healing properties (the essential oil can be used pure on a cotton swab for epistaxis or small wounds). It can be used in dermatology and immunology. It is an antibacterial essential oil and regulates the parasympathetic nervous system.

Rockroses ( Cistaceae family ) are shrubs that grow most often around the Mediterranean. They love dry (generally siliceous, but also calcareous), sunny soil. What's more, they regenerate easily and even multiply after fires. This means that Mediterranean scrubland and garrigues, so often affected by forest fires, are carpeted with cistus blossoms between spring and summer (April-June).

Cistus ladanifer essential oil, extracted from the leafy twigs of the Cistus ladanifer plant, boasts a range of pharmacodynamic properties. This phytotherapeutic agent concentrates bioactive compounds offering multiple therapeutic benefits.

  • Antimicrobial properties: the oil's constituents, notably α-pinene, demonstrate significant antibacterial and antifungal activity, inhibiting in vitro pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Candida albicans. Antiviral efficacy, in particular against the herpes virus HSV1, extends its spectrum of use in infectiology.
  • Hemostatic and healing activity: Cistus essential oil is an excellent coagulant, facilitating cutaneous and mucous membrane healing. Its topical application can be used in the treatment of light bleeding, such as epistaxis, thanks to its astringent and anti-hemorrhagic properties.
  • Expectorant properties: Theexpectorant action of α-pinene, by modulating bronchial secretions and inhibiting acetylcholinesterase, suggests its usefulness in respiratory pathologies and could be of interest in neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease.
  • Dermatological effects: Cistus oil prevents skin ageing and is used in dermatology and immunology, particularly on ectodermal tissues.
  • Circulatory properties: It promotes arteriovenous collateral circulation, contributing to the elasticity of veins, which is relevant in the treatment of varicose veins and inflammatory vascular pathologies. In addition, its lymphotonic and lipolytic effects are exploited in the resolution of lipid accumulations.
  • Anti-inflammatory action: Cistus oil has a cortison-like effect, stimulating the pituitary-cortical-adrenal axis, which is advantageous in the treatment of chronic inflammatory conditions.
  • Other effects: Neurotonic, neurovegetative regulatory properties and actions centered on the body's internal rhythms suggest a positive influence on physiological and emotional harmonization, with anti-degenerative and desclerosing potential.

Thanks to its wide range of pharmacological actions, this essential oil is a relevant complementary therapeutic agent in a variety of clinical contexts. However, its use requires a thorough knowledge of aromatherapy and phytotherapy, given the potency and specificity of its active components.

We also offerLemon essential oil from the specialist aromatherapy laboratory Dr Valnet, at the best price in our online pharmacy.
