DAFALGAN is a paracetamol-based over-the-counter medication manufactured by the UPSA pharmaceutical laboratory. Like aspirin, DAFALGAN treats mild to moderate pain, but without aspirin's anti-coagulant effects, nor is it anti-inflammatory. On the other hand, DAFALGAN and paracetamol in general are perfectly well tolerated by children and pregnant or breast-feeding women. Be sure to respect the usual doses and form (tablets, capsules, suppositories, syrup, etc.) for each age group, and check that any associated medications do not contain paracetamol; if they do, take them into account in the maximum authorized daily quantity. The maximum quantity of paracetamol for ADULTS over 15 is 3 grams distributed over 24 hours.

How to take Dafalgan?

Dosage

This presentation is reserved for adults and children weighing 27 kg or more (from around 8 years of age).

Duration of treatment

The duration of treatment is limited to :

5 days for pain,
3 days for fever

Paracetamol is available in a wide range of dosages, enabling treatment to be adapted to each child's weight.

The recommended daily dose of paracetamol depends on the child's weight: around 60 mg/kg/day, divided into 4 or 6 doses, i.e. around 15 mg/kg every 6 hours or 10 mg/kg every 4 hours.

For children, the total paracetamol dose should not exceed 80 mg/kg/d (see section 4.9).

For adults and children weighing over 50 kg (aged 15 and over), the usual dose is 1 to 2 tablets per dose, depending on the intensity of the pain, repeated if necessary after at least 4 hours.

It is generally not necessary to exceed 3 g of paracetamol per day, i.e. 6 tablets per day. However, in the event of more intense pain, and on the advice of your doctor, the total dose may be increased up to 4 g per day, or 8 tablets per day.

However :

- doses exceeding 3 g paracetamol per day require medical advice.

- NEVER TAKE MORE THAN 4 GRAMS OF PARACETAMOL A DAY (taking into account all drugs containing paracetamol in their formulation).

Always take at least 4 hours apart.

The maximum daily dose should not exceed 60 mg/kg (but not exceed 3 g) per day in the following situations:

adults weighing less than 50 kg,
severe liver disease,
Gilbert's syndrome (familial non-hemolytic jaundice),
chronic alcoholism,
chronic malnutrition,
dehydration.

What are the side effects of Dafalgan?

In rare cases, Dafalgan may cause a skin rash or redness, or an allergic reaction manifested by sudden swelling of the face and neck, or sudden malaise with a drop in blood pressure. Treatment must be stopped immediately, your doctor must be informed and you must never take paracetamol again.
In rare cases, severe skin reactions have been reported. Treatment must be stopped immediately, your doctor must be informed and paracetamol-containing drugs must never be taken again.
In exceptional cases, biological changes requiring blood tests have been observed: liver function disorders, abnormally low levels of certain white blood cells or certain blood cells such as platelets, which may lead to nose or gum bleeding. In this case, consult a doctor.
