duration: acute headaches appear and disappear quickly; chronic headaches usually set in more slowly and gradually. They can last for weeks or months ( chronic daily headache );
the headache may be accompanied by other signs: fever, nausea and vomiting, loss of sensitivity, numbness ...

What medication for headache?

The treatment of headaches is based on taking pain medication such as paracetamol or aspirin. The majority of these drugs are available without a prescription and their use in self-medication must be done in accordance with the precautions for use. Be careful, their excessive or prolonged consumption can transform intermittent headaches into a permanent state: this is called headaches due to the abuse of analgesics.

Pain medications ( aspirin , ibuprofen, or paracetamol , alone or in combination) are usually effective in treating the headache. The majority of these analgesics are available without a prescription and their use in self-medication must be done in accordance with the precautions for use and the recommended dosages.

NSAIDs should be used with caution in patients with a history of stomach or duodenal ulcer, renal failure, asthma or gout and in women who have an intrauterine device (IUD).

Paracetamol , unlike aspirin or NSAIDs, has no digestive side effects. Rare allergic skin manifestations are possible. It must be taken within the maximum recommended doses. Indeed, paracetamol overdose can be toxic to the liver. Many medicines, especially those used to relieve the common cold, contain paracetamol. Avoid combining them.
