The only contraindication to paracetamol is severe liver disease.
It is often well tolerated and very rarely responsible for adverse effects (mainly allergic skin reactions and a drop in blood platelets).
However, care must be taken when using it, as many specialties contain paracetamol, and taking several paracetamol-containing drugs at the same time can lead to an overdose that can cause serious liver damage. Misuse of paracetamol is the leading cause of drug-induced liver transplants in France. It is therefore particularly important to adhere to the recommended doses and duration of treatment. The risk of liver toxicity is increased in certain situations: undernutrition, dehydration, alcohol dependence, viral hepatitis, persons weighing less than 50 kg.
